Story
Growing up in the green room of SNL, being born to a fire-eater and adopted by a SWAT cop, having internal organs explode, and adopting a deaf girl from China, Scarlet Hiltibidal has been given some strange life experiences - and lived in fear through most of them. But life changed for Scarlet when she learned to hold the gospel up to her fears and realized that though she can't fix herself or protect herself, Jesus walked into this broken, sad, scary place to rescue, love, and cast out her - and your - fear.

I will also get the print version and share with friends and family members.
Scarlet has perfectly expressed so many things I personally identify with (and many others do also I suspect). The small, the in-between and the big things...ALL the things. They are covered. Jesus. The one WORD. He has covered them all. As a long-time believer, I know this. As an all-the-time weak sinner, I forget this. (#struggling).
Thank you, Jesus, for Scarlet. For the talent, intellect, humor and relatability You have given her, for the wisdom beyond her young years, for her sweet, humble spirit, and her willingness to be used by You in this way to remind readers and listeners of Your strength, power and love in the midst of inevitable scary things. Thank You for all the Scriptures she shared in this work, beautifully applying Your words to ease fears with Your love and banish lies with Your Truth.
I personally have scary things in front of me right now and I feel more hopeful and encouraged and less anxious and worried. Scarlet has, in a way, cleared away clouds that blurred my ability to look to Jesus. Thank you, Scarlet, for this work.
To those who are thinking about reading or listening I say, the sooner the better. Drop whatever you are doing and consume this book now.

Story
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Mesmerizing mix of magic and mundane
Reviewed: 06-22-18
Do you believe in magic? Wecker’s ability to weave the threads of this tapestry through hundreds of years and Guidall’s beautiful narration casts a spell and brings the listener along for a magic carpet ride through the streets of turn of the century New York City with a cast of ordinary, hard-working characters whose lives are forever impacted by magical beings from opposite ends of the spectrum. One ancient, one brand new. One fire, one clay. Even their cultures of origin are forever at war. A masterful, mysterious tale.

Story
A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging and humorous account of temptation - and triumph over it - ever written.

More than mere entertainment

Joss Ackland’s production of Lewis’ clever classic is believable and beautifully read. Though Screwtape admits his specific niche to be England, his admonishments to the hapless Wormwood are universal to all humanity thanks to the wit and wisdom of CS Lewis. This production hit home with me, a 21st century American female, thanks to Mr. Ackland’s keen inhabitation of the diabolically “affectionate” Uncle Screwtape. Many thanks for a wonderful listening experience!

Story
Dorian Gray, a handsome and narcissistic young man, lives thoughtlessly for his own pleasure. One day, after having his portrait painted, Dorian makes a frivolous Faustian wish: that he should always remain as young and beautiful as he is in that painting, while the portrait grows old in his stead.
The wish comes true, and Dorian soon finds that none of his wicked actions have visible consequences. Realizing that he will appear fresh and unspoiled no matter what kind of life he lives, Dorian becomes increasingly corrupt. Only the portrait grows degenerate and ugly, a powerful symbol of Dorian's internal ruin.

Simon Vance’s production of this classic tale is perfectly wonderful. His rich voice is easy to listen to and his characterizations are as distinct as the individuals themselves from English nobles to downstairs servants and dwellers in houses of ill repute. I’m a fan!

Story
The Eschaton had been designed to hold numerous and diverse immense biological habitats: flora, fauna, and everything needed to terraform a new world. It also carried thousands of people in suspended animation. The ship was designed to be tended by crews who would live out their lives in the journey between worlds. That journey would only be completed after several generations had lived and died while in transit. That was the plan. But something happened. The people from Dome 17 have reached The Eschaton, but what will they find in those habitats? What systems are still functioning?

Who can you trust?

"Trust is all you need." And some blindly follow, while others trust no one. Worlds apart literally describes groups of people thrust together by life-and-death circumstances and are forced to survive either by learning to trust and lean on each other or by defending their own lives by any means available. The suspense and action continues in Book 2 of this series. John Thornton mixes in humor and pathos in this very human story set in an automated and mechanical environment. Alexander Doddy's beautiful British voice compliments the story and is a joy to listen to!

Michael and Jamie live in Dome 17. The last place safe for humans, or any life, on a dying Earth. They are adventurers who have explored other domes, but everywhere else is dead. Will Dome 17 meet the same fate? The committee has a risky plan to try out unproven technologies: a faster than light scout ship, and teleportation. Both technologies have severe limits. Only two people can be carried aboard those FTL scout ships for a one way journey.

Book 1 of 10 in the Colony Ship Eschaton series is brought to life on audible.com! John Thornton's good guy / gal duo Michael and Jamie are fun to get acquainted with and their encounters near and very far bring surprises, laughs, tears and suspense. Be prepared to binge-listen to the cool British voice of Alexander Doddy who narrates with heart, soul and who even does such a great (and perfectly American!) voice for Roxanne, a main character who is not quite human, that it made me want to do a happy dance!
