Story
Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.

Reacher goes where he wants, when he wants. That morning he was heading west, walking under the merciless desert sun — until he comes upon a curious scene. A Jeep has crashed into the only tree for miles around. A woman is slumped over the wheel. Dead? No, nothing is what it seems. The woman is Michaela Fenton, an army veteran turned FBI agent trying to find her twin brother, who might be mixed up with some dangerous people. Most of them would rather die than betray their terrifying leader.

Well this is the official ending of Jack Reacher books. They are just dull and very hard to get through. I kept going back because I’d lose track with what was going on. A triller reaches out and grabs you. This book lost me several times. Fighting and more fighting. Unfortunately I returned this book…it was just badly written

Scott has the best imagination...As I’m reading his novels I have to stop...shake my head..and mumble under my breath “where does he get this stuff??” Mount Fitz - the sequel to Earthcore - is a smashing novel again demonstrating Scott’s wild thoughts. Someone should do a study on this guy...he’s just amazing. Give any of his novels a read...his novels are exciting, a never see it coming literary ride. Get on board and hold on tight!!

I’m very picky about audiobooks and I’m constantly listening to one. So, I would know a really good one from a bad one. “The Wives” I passed up a few times then I took a chance and glad I did! This book keeps you guessing right to the end. Once you think you figured it out...you didn’t. Not too many characters, just the right amount of plot twists and easy to follow. “The Wives” is AN EXCELLENT book. Narration is perfect. Highly entertaining and enjoyable. Gdkeyes

Story
When she stumbles across the ad, she’s looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss - a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten - by the luxurious “smart” home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family. What she doesn’t know is that she’s stepping into a nightmare - one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder.

Maybe I’m the oddball here - reading other reviews makes me wonder if I listened to the same book. I’m a very picky audiobook listener and disdain poorly put together audiobooks. But I found “The turn of the key” refreshingly entertaining. Yeah, the main character does whine..and maybe dragged on a bit. What impressed me was the story line which took turns and was unpredictable. It did keep me guessing. I would say that Ruth Ware should have shorted the first half thus concentrating on the end and wrap it all together better. Anyway, I enjoyed it and would recommend it to others. No need for harsh reviews. It’s just a novel...not Shakespeare.

After his December 2003 arrest, registered nurse Charlie Cullen was quickly dubbed "The Angel of Death" by the media. But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favorite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history.

After reading past reviews I was worried I would be disappointed, but I'm glad I took the chance and used my credit. Yes, the narration is dry if not all out boring. Words are mispronounced etc. However, the story itself kept me listening. I could not get over how this killer could have been caught earlier but due to hospitals being more worried over lawsuits than patient's lives, he was passed on from hospital to hospital. It's sick how legal concerns are paramount to people within our hospitals. This story stands as an example.

is this America??
Reviewed: 09-21-13
This book is a must read. It will open your eyes about how far people will go when under disaster. The book follows doctors during and after hurricane Katrina who were later charged with the euthanasia of 19 patients. The book is informative and kept my interest. What would force doctors trained to save lives get to the point on actually "putting down" helpless patients. It opens questions such as "Do doctors, under devastating circumstances, have the right to decide who lives and dies claiming to do so for the greater good?" I also found how America sadly tosses aside the elderly - viewing them as disposable. Abuse of the elderly is a hugh problem and as a result they are highly discriminated against. This book brings to light many questions as to the treatment of patients and the power of doctors under their care. To be honest, I saw this dilemma from many different sides, the doctor's, hospital's, goverment's, relatives of dead loved ones, and of course the patients who now have no say.

the best book 2012/2013

Would you listen to Gone Girl again? Why?
I've waited awhile to write this review. Gone Girl remains the best book I've listened to since I started with Audible. Constant twists and turns leaves you never able to guess the ending. Just when you think you've got it figured out - everything changes. Gone Girl is both well written and narrated and very suspenseful. At first, though, I found this book hard to listen to - even quite boring - but soon I couldn't get enough. It quickly turned into one of my favorite books. I have what I call "book withdrawal" where when I've finished a book it seems I can't find another to replace it - in the sense that it sucks me in with plot and characters. It's been over a year now and I am still in "book withdrawal" from Gone Girl. My advice - read it, listen to it, whatever - you WILL not be disappointed!

Is there anything you would change about this book?
I think Mr Hobbs was trying to recreate a new "Jack Reacher" by giving tips and explainations to aspects of his character's crimes. Mr. Hobbs almost made it with his character "The Ghostman" I found the book entertaining and interesting even though it's no Lee Childs. I feel as this author grows along with his character, the plot and writing will get much more tighter and smooth. I will definitely check out anything new with Roger Hobbs - he's up and coming.
Would you recommend Ghostman to your friends? Why or why not?
y
What aspect of Jake Weber’s performance would you have changed?
i read the reviews before listening and i must agree that the narrator - Jack Weber was a tad slow and somewhat monotonous. However, it wasn't to the point of distraction and probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't have read previous reviews. I guess book reviews can backfire.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
