Story
In The Return of the Gods, Cahn takes the listener on a journey from an ancient parable, the ancient inscriptions in Sumer, Assyria, and Babylonia that become the puzzle pieces behind what is taking place in our world to this day, specifically in America. The mystery involves the gods. Who are they? What are they? And is it possible that these beings, whose origins are from ancient times, are the unseen catalysts of modern culture?

I honestly couldn't put the book down unless I had to. It definitely stirred me up to re-read the Holy Bible, and now I can't put that down either. I'm excitedly going through the whole Bible again, beginning in Genesis, and with a new perspective. We don't wrestle against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities. This book made that overwhelmingly obvious. I pray as you read or listen, your spirit-man convicts you of any sin, idolatry, or just being lukewarm, and your desire to have a relationship with the One True God is rekindled. If you have not received Jesus as your Savior, then I pray you would receive Him now as the only sufficient sacrifice for forgiveness of sins. God bless you reader.

It seems like an easy assignment for an assertive but sweet woman like Gracie Snow: track down her friend, Bobby Denton, a famous ex-jock, and bring him to Heaven (Texas, that is) to shoot a movie. How could he refuse a glamorous offer like that? Easy....

No other word for it - fun! Great narration, the best of Anna Fields. She must have had such a good time doing all those SEP novels. The two main characters, Gracie and Bobby Joe, were right up there with the best of her couples.

This is soooo not like SEP
Reviewed: 04-30-09
I've only listened to 4 of her books and when I started this one I fully expected to have laugh out loud chuckles, but all I got was one bad thing after another happening to Rachel. I have about less than 2 hours left of the book to go and I'm guessing it will all turn out for the best, but I'm tired of it. Just when you think things can't get worse one more bad thing happens. Oh, I'll suffer thru the rest just to see how she can turn Gabe Bonner into a worthy Bonner brother. The way he treats her son ... nah, I don't even think at the end of the book I'm going to like Gabe Bonner. This is the most depressing book. SEP, how could you?

It's Dan Calebow's worst nightmare: Phoebe Somerville, a trendy New York knockout, inherits the Chicago Stars, the football team he coaches. And she wants to help him run it. Phoebe's sure he needs her. He's a sexist good-ol'-boy jock with a one-track mind. Surely she can straighten him out.

Loved this book from the very beginning. Shortly after "meeting" Dan Calebow, I never could seem to get the picture of Matthew Mcconnaughey out of my mind, so there he stayed, as Dan, for the entire time I listened to Anna Fields' excellent narration. It was a fun romp (and there were several descriptive "romps") and, as usual, great character development.

Half way thru this happy, nobody has any problems, life is too good to be true fairy tale, I actually had to go to Amazon.com and read the synopsis of the book to see what finally happened to NOT make their relationship "happily every after". Once I determined what happens (and who knows how many more hours of drivel listening that would have taken), I decided it wasn't worth it to suffer thru any longer. I love listening to the narrator, Sandra Burr, but not this time; and to be fair, I don't know if it is the book she's reading, or the voices she did -- I don't know, but I got tired of her. The guy who read the male chapters -- eh -- not impressed. I'm glad I got it on sale but it was still a waste of money

My first SEP novel
Reviewed: 04-17-09
This was my first SEP novel and won't be my last. I have since listened to a couple others and have a couple others waiting in my library and with that I have to say that so far, this is not my favorite - though I did like it A LOT. While there are things in her other books that you kind of doubt the believability, I felt that unbelievability more so in this one. I think the story line was too much.

Jane Darlington is a genius at physics, but there's one problem she can't solve. She yearns for a child, but wants to spare it the pain of growing up as...well, a nerd. And surely any child of Jane's would be a little too brainy for the playground set. So she sets out to find a special man to father her child, someone without too much gray-matter between his ears: in short, a big, strong dope. Cal Bonner, legendary pro quarterback, seems to fit the bill. But there's something Dr. Jane hasn't counted on.

This was a fun book, read by a great narrator. In the beginning when I first heard her do Cal's voice, I thought I couldn't listen to that for the entire book, but it grew on me and after awhile he was "Cal". Anna Fields knows when to pause and how and when to apply the right amount of emphasis and emotion. As for the author, I hope SEP enjoys writing them as much as her readers enjoy reading/listening. I also hear she blends her books by taking a side character and making them the focus of another book and then taking a side character in that book etc. I'm hoping to see how old lovers are doing.

Story
Jane is a young New York woman who never seems to find the right man - perhaps because of her secret obsession with Mr. Darcy, as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. When a wealthy relative bequeaths her a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-obsessed women, however, Jane's fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined. Is this total immersion in a fake Austenland enough to make Jane kick the Austen obsession for good?

Boring, kinda stupid and an irritating narrator. I tried - got thru maybe half and said to myself - why are you forcing yourself to listen to this drivel? I sure hope at 32, I wasn't as big a nitwit as the main character is in this book. Need to get over your obsession of Pride and Prejudice or Mr. Darcy? Give this book a listen, you'll put Jane Austen away in a box up in the attic.
