If you’ve listened to books by Suzanne Collins before, how does this one compare?

Nowhere near as good as the first book in this series. I thought the story was weak at best. Catniss was so wishy washy in this book when it came to her love triangle.

Any additional comments?

I thought the first book was better than decent, but this was a disappointing end. The story and characters were lame in my opinion. It is basically a love story about a girl that can't make up her mind between two boys for the entire story. It didn't have nearly the action of the first book.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

It is a good book if you like political thrillers. It is very realistic and Clancy always gets the details right.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Threat Vector?

The ending was not very predictable, and it didn't end like I thought it would.

Have you listened to any of Lou Diamond Phillips’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't, but he does an excellent job with this book. His narration is borderline spectacular. He could do audiobooks for a living. He has a very even voice.

Any additional comments?

This book is as good as "Rainbow Six" which is the only other Clancy book I have read, and that book was well above average. He makes the story and characters realistic. He did an excellent job of realistically portraying China and Americas military strengths and weaknesses. I'm tired of reading these books that make China of the future out to be some military power that can't be beat.

I learned a lot about the Apollo missions that I never knew. This is a must read for any person that is a fan of space flight. It breaks down in detail all the problems and hurdles that America had to overcome to land a man on the moon. It's very comprehensive. The book does get a little dry when dealing with the personal lives of the astronauts.

If you could sum up The God Delusion in three words, what would they be?

Facts, Facts, Facts

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The author make a solid argument for the belief no god exists. It won't change a religious persons mind, but open minded people should get something out of it.

Any additional comments?

Any religious person won't get past the first two chapters before they call it rubbish, and shut the audiobook off. It is based on facts, science, and logical arguments. It should give most atheists more ammo.

Would you consider the audio edition of Ender's Game to be better than the print version?

Never read the printed version.

Any additional comments?

This is the only audiobook I have ever given 5 stars. It is a classic. I never heard of this book until the movie trailers came out. This book is solid from beginning to end. My only knock would be the final two chapters slow down a bit compared to the rest of the book. This is a must have audiobook. I still can't believe I had never heard of this book until this year.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if you like Patterson books. His books are hit or miss with me, and this was a solid hit. Not as good as "Kiss the Girls" or "Jack & Jill", but pretty close.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. It was hard to tell where the story was going, or guess what is going to happen next. Classic James Patterson plot. You didn't realize why something was happening until after a plot line was revealed. I also thought the "bad guys" in this story were some of his best since his earlier works.

Which scene was your favorite?

The bad guy escape from the church. I didn't see how they were going to escape until it happened. The entire time I was trying to guess how, but I didn't get it right.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

Any additional comments?

Like most of Patterson series the first book is almost always the best, and I would say that about this book. I wouldn't call it a classic but it was a solid book. I haven't read any other books in this series but I might down the road.

What made the experience of listening to The Undead Haze the most enjoyable?

I like this narrator a lot. He did the first book in the series and it was one of the highlights. If you liked the first book than this one won't disappoint.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Undead Haze?

When (Gabe) the girl that was abandoned in the first book came back into this story. It was a surprise that she wasn't dead or a zombie.

Have you listened to any of Kevin T. Collins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

One of the best parts of the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to this book over the course of about 24 hours. I liked the first book and the zombie genre in general.

Any additional comments?

If you like zombie books than this is a good series to listen to. Make sure you read the first book before this one. This book takes place a couple month after the first one, and you are definitely missing something if you skip it. The entire plot is about saving a character he met in the first book, and the main character keeps reminiscing about prior events that happened in the first story.

What did you like best about Invasion: California? What did you like least?

I like the future war genre, and that is what this is.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I think this story is very far fetched. Basically the Chinese have bullet proof war technology that is light years ahead of the USA. It is the same plot as Invasion Alaska where the Chinese only get tripped up by bad luck. It gets a little lame that Chinese technology is better in every aspect than the USA. This story starts out where the USA has virtually no Navy because China has destroyed it, and the Chinese control Siberia, Hawaii, some of Alaska, and our allied with every important country. The USA is on their own with literally NO ALLIES. Once again, it's really far fetched to think the USA Navy which is larger than the rest of the world combined is virtually destroyed by the 2030's.
Also China is now the largest oil producer, and the USA has no oil. In reality the USA is projected to produce 9 million barrels of oil per day by 2015. That is just some of the discrepancies.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I think the general story about a future war between China and the USA is a good fiction piece, but the author goes way overboard on Chinas rise and the USAs fall. Every move China has made over the next 20 years is a home run, and the USA hasn't done anything right.
Another thing I really disliked is how it ended with an unfinished war that was a stalemate just like the last book, but even worse. He wrote this book with an ending that left everything in limbo for another book.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Any additional comments?

If you liked the first book than you will like this one. If you didn't like the first book than you won't like this one. It's basically the same characters, circumstances, plots, and outcome. I bought it to see how it finished after reading the first book. I really didn't liked the general theme of the series but thought it was ridiculous how one sided the power balance was towards China.

Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, Book Three) Audiobook By Suzanne Collins cover art

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It is ridiculous how ditzy they made Katniss in these books. One second she loves Peter and the next she loves Gayle. It goes on like that for the entire length of the last two books. She changes her mind every time something bad happens to one of the boys. Katniss came off as shallow to me.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The general outline of the story is good. The Hunger Games is an original idea. I just think the character are all shallow.

What about Carolyn McCormick’s performance did you like?

She did a decent job. Not the best narrator, but not the worst. It's a good book if you liked the movie/

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. It was just to far fetched for me.

Would you recommend Invasion: Alaska to your friends? Why or why not?

No. This author came off as a closet China lover. It's about 30 years in the future and the Chinese military has multiplied its military by 10 fold while the USA has a military straight out of 1980. It's basically a scenario where every Chinese military technology is optimistically better than can be imagined right now, and the American military had devolved to the point where it couldn't beat Iraq. The Chinese have their way with the USA via laser cannons, anti satellite missiles, drones, tanks, and fighter planes. A perfect example is in 30 years China has went from no aircraft carriers to 8 that are better than any of the USA's aircraft carriers. Basically the USA got STOMPED for the entire book and the only thing that stopped China was bad luck.

What does Mark Ashby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I though the narrator did an outstanding job. He read the story well and brought the characters to life. I would have no problem buying another story that he narrated.

Was Invasion: Alaska worth the listening time?

No. My statements above give my reasons. The story is based on China doing everything to perfection over the next 30 years, and the USA having nothing go right over the same time period.
