Excellent Read

Melodramatic and unbelievable

I read most of the positive reviews before buying this audiobook and unfortunately, I would have to agree with the one negative review I saw. Not only is it riddled with cliches, I found the prose overly dramatic and wordy. At times throughout listening I experienced deja vous - the author borrows ideas from stronger writers and changes them just enough to hide them from the casual reader. I wonder if he's a big fan of Thomas Harris.
I actually rolled my eyes and groaned out loud at one point near the end. Still, I have to admit I did finish the book (can not say that about all of my purchases on this site), if only to enjoy the rollercoaster of prose. (see? His melodramatic way of writing is rubbing off)

Not his best work

I'm not sure if its the actual writing or the narration of the book that I'm not enjoying. While I do enjoy the Inspector Pendergast novels written by Lincoln & Child, I am not finding this book as engrossing. The dialogue seems contrived. I do have to give him points for dumbing down some of the scientific aspects of the novel; I have absolutely no background in quantum physics but am able to follow what is going on quite easily.
The narrator is horrible. Awful. Very nasal voice, not much range for the differing characters. I will stay away from his readings in the future.

The reading repeated a couple of times (mistakes with the recording?) and the story was a little pulpy but all in all not a bad book. I would give the author another try, the narrator was so-so, not the best nor the worst

The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. I loved, loved, loved the series and loved the narration. Was at first disappionted when the narrator changed halfway through the Dark Tower series (loved the first narrator too) but quickly grew to know the new voice. Great books, great narration. It is a real talent when you can tell which character is speaking by the different voices the narrator is able to do. Didn't get five stars because Jim Dale has set the bar for reading for me, would have given 4 1/2 if I could.

Not bad, not the worst book I've heard on tape, but the narration could be better. The interaction between the characters seems artificial and I don't find the justification for the reporter's involvement believable. I also wonder if the dialogue would sound so cheesy if the narration was better acted. I don't know if I will be reading another of the author's books anytime soon and I doubt I will buy another audiobook with this narrator.
