Story
Remember when we hit it off so well that we decided we’re going to need more wine? Well, this time you and I are going to turn to our friend the bartender and ask, you got anything stronger? I promise to continue to make you laugh, but with this round, the stakes get higher as the conversation goes deeper.

Completely Enjoyed!

I really enjoyed this book! It’s 2:30am and I just finished listening. Gabby did such a great job, at times she was educating you about the black experience in America and raising a Transgender child and at other times you felt like you were there cheering and witnessing a dance battle with Bruno Mars. Nothing tugged at my heart more than the recounts of miscarriages and the ultimate birth of my most favorite “Instagram but real real life” niece Kaavia! I can’t wait to read more titles by Gabby.

Story
Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

There were some times during this book where I was completely heartbroken for Tiffany. Other times, I wanted to shake her and say “Girl, get it together.” She has gone through so much and yet has such an optimistic and encouraging attitude. I pray that life only gets better from here on out.
This book is a good read for everyone. Recommended.

Story
Right from the start, Bigger Thomas had been headed for jail. It could have been for assault or petty larceny; by chance, it was for murder and rape. Native Son tells the story of this young black man caught in a downward spiral after he kills a young white woman in a brief moment of panic. Set in Chicago in the 1930s, Richard Wright's powerful novel is an unsparing reflection on the poverty and feelings of hopelessness experienced by people in inner cities across the country and of what it means to be black in America.

I truly loved this book! Enjoyed every minute of it.

Where to begin? So, well written and performed brilliantly. I couldn't get enough. This book really is an eye opener to the way of the world during the time period that it represents, and an extreme cautionary tale as to what we don't want to repeat.
Can't help but have sympathy for Bigger Thomas and his way of life, although his actions are wrong. In this book, there is no real hero and nothing is truly solved but you get an accurate historical account of the world and that's probably more important than anything. The women didn't deserve to die but you understand why Bigger felt like he had no choice in the matter. Racism, Classism, and Greed run rampant and are the main themes.
Read this book, you will learn something and probably..at least temporarily become a better person because of it.

If you’ve listened to books by Kevin Hart and Neil Strauss - contributor before, how does this one compare?
N/A
Have you listened to any of Kevin Hart’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Pretty equal to his stand-up and movie personality.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Kevin Hart, My Life So-far, in My Own Words
Any additional comments?
If you are curious about Kevin Hart in any way, you will learn EVERYTHING about him by reading this book. And I mean EVERYTHING, from his relationship with his Parents to his relationship issues with his first real Girlfriend, who I now dislike ;). I love the way he gives little quotes of wisdom and lessons that you can apply to your own life after he either a.) makes a huge mistake by doing it the wrong way first b.) or applying it to his own life and discovering that it worked. Nevertheless, I wish him so much success because he truly craves it and works so hard to achieve it.

I really wanted to like this book. But for some reason I found most of it extremely self-centered, self-absorbed almost to the point of narcissism. I tried to keep an open mind that maybe that is what the author was going for, after all she is a comedian, but it took a very long time for any of it to make sense to me.
Because I'm reviewing this book immediately after listening, I may amend my review in a few days once I have time to process everything so that I can detail what..if anything that I have learned.
I will say that if you are a fan of Mindy and are the least bit curious about how she's able to look the way she looks, desires her beauty tips, or winders what she thinks about just about everything then this is the book for you.

I feel as though I learned a lot by listening to this book and will definitely use it as a reference point frequently in the future. The personal stories were fascinating, especially the background of the Rosa Parks bus boycott and the Rhode Island Hospital fiascos.
I believe that a 2nd listen while taking notes will definitely help me change anything about me that I desire to change. Highly recommend. Oh, and the Narrator did a great job.
