In his final hours in the Oval Office, the outgoing President grants a controversial last-minute pardon to Joel Backman, a notorious Washington power broker who has spent the last six years hidden away in a federal prison. What no one knows is that the President issues the pardon only after receiving enormous pressure from the CIA. It seems Backman, in his power broker heyday, may have obtained secrets that compromise the world’s most sophisticated satellite surveillance system.

John Grisham is about a 5 out of 6'er. That is 5 out of every 6 books he writes are simply fantastic. The other is a clinker or a sell out. The broker is very exciting and brings us out of the courtroom to Italy. One of our favorite places in the entire world. We could picture every street every restaurant every place in Italy that we have visited. A great idea to have the story take place in an area that many of us are familiar with. The story itself is very strong and we enjoyed it very much and we hope that unlike his previous works he will bring back the central character again.

David Baldacci is growing into one of our favorite writers. Currently is books seem to run in streaks. One great one and one far from great. this is one of those great books. Continuing with characters from a previous book that was indeed one of his best. It is a wonderful exciting whodunit and we loved it. Want more from David just like this one and still feel he has not been able to out do the Millionaire.... can't wait for more.

I couldn't wait to read this book. I found it drawn out and not very much going on, very wordy until the beginning of the last book of 3. Disappointing when compared to the Puzo stuff. Wanted it to be great and it wasn't.
