Nothing I disliked. Extremely profound. I’m blown away honestly. Highly recommend, not just for science fiction fans. It’s a wonder how he predicted so much about technology. It’s not some technical syfy book. It has deep meaning for any human.

I cannot express verbally the depth within me that this book plunged to. I thank the author from the center of my being for doing the work necessary to bring this story into the world. We are all riding on the backs of our ancestors love...hear them now whisper to you in the spaces between these stories, between the authors words, in her spaces, there will you find the depth and medicine you seek. It may taste bitter, yet the most bitter medicine heals the most.

my completely subjective reflection: Narrator doesn't sound or feel very Zen to me. There is no stillness in his being, no silence emanating deeply from between his words. I feel tension there instead. Listen to Manly P Hall, Eckhart Tolle or Allan Watts talk...you instantly feel calm. I must not be zen enough to accept it but the guy reading sounds like the whitest person I have ever heard in my life. His approach expressed via his inflection to these subjects really makes it feel like he has no actual grasp of the principles or practices. He emphasises things he feels are important because he assumes they are, not because he knows them. He legit sounds like your quant neighbor who always waves at you over his white picket fence in a suberb cul-de-sac. I would have preferred a monotonous reader with lower pitch and not such an abrasive tonality. I think the books delivery suffers for it. Its kind of cringey. Hahaha judge me

best story I've read in a long long time, and I've been reading fantasy for over 20 years. better than game of thrones and Harry Potter....has more heart than Stephen Erikson's garden of the moons...overall has both function and form in great equal parts. a truly great story.

I feel like despite some of the graphic scenes, the overall tone of this novel still had a "young adult" feel. Some of the main characters ARE young adults, aleron mercer being the most whiney, self doubting, and pouty of them all. Some of the narrations seem corny and annoying to me, maybe because they are a little over the top? I'm not sure, but the narration seemed to taint the overall effect and tone to make it lean towards a young adult fantasy romance drama. Upon imagining the pure text of it all, as if I were reading the words in a book, this illeviated the immature mood. That said, it's not all negative from me. I'm happy there is a book about mages, and the story and suspense of it all grows on you. I LOVE all the specifications of all the different kinds of Gnosis (the term they use in place of magic in the book, which is deemed an unfitting definition according to the Canon). I hope the story and characters mature more, as I'm sure they will. I will consider reading the physical text in the second book and see how that goes. I'll also just buy the audio book because I want to find out what happens ASAP haha. Give this book a shot, it won't completely floor or amaze you, but it's worth the time if you are really into stories about magic users and their complexities.
