Story
Hig survived the flu that killed everyone he knows. His wife is gone, his friends are dead, he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting misanthrope. In his 1956 Cessna, Hig flies the perimeter of the airfield or sneaks off to the mountains to fish and to pretend that things are the way they used to be. But when a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life exists beyond the airport.

Simplistic rubbish and propaganda.
Reviewed: 07-25-24
I wanted to like this but the reader was terrible. The dialogue sounded like it was written by a high school student. People don’t talk like the characters in this book. It was boring and moralistic. I also felt like it was confederate propaganda justifying treason, and sugar coating slavery all in the name of god. I couldn’t finish it.

Do you like listening to to disclaimers at the end of a drug commercial? Then you will love this. Did the sound engineer speed up the narrator’s voice. I like Ken Follett but I lasted about an hour trying to ignore the terrible audio engineering but the writing was also bad. Hard to imagine he actually wrote this simplistic drivel. Hard No

On the wild, lonely coast of Western Australia, two thrill-seeking teenage boys fall under the spell of a veteran big-wave surfer named Sando. Their mentor urges them into a regiment of danger and challenge, and the boys test themselves and each other on storm swells and over shark-haunted reefs. The boys give no thought to what they could lose, or to the demons that drive their mentor on into ever-greater danger. Venturing beyond all caution—in sports, relationships, and sex—each character approaches a point from which none of them will return undamaged.

Tim Winton told a story that I related to do strongly. I’ve been bored with everything I have read recently. This book hit me so hard. It reminded me of the adventures of my youth. The mistakes that I have made in my life. And finally how to live with the memories of these things now that I am older. I recommend it to any adventurous soul.

James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.
