Story
Best-selling author Angela Elwell Hunt traces the life of Moses as seen through the eyes of three women: his adoptive mother, his sister, and his wife. This is a stunning recreation of a Biblical era and a faithful servant of God.

Moses viewed as a real person,
Reviewed: 11-16-20
I enjoyed getting to know the "possible" story of Moses, as he grew up and searched for his calling in life. I had never really thought of his "early years" before. All the story line was plausible and the historical data shows the author did her research. Would recommend to anyone who would like to "imagine" the life of this biblical hero,

The research done is obvious. The author knits historical events into the story. Storyline was ok, however, the narrator was forgettable. I wouldn't go out of my way to read this again.

Good story concept - narrator is awful

I often read historical fiction and Bible based is one of my favorite. The story line was practically infantile in some scenes. It needed some emotional claws. Instead it just told the story with not much emotion. The narrator was the worst possible. A good narrator might have redeemed some of the story line. I appreciated the author's effort.

Story
Secrets, mistaken identities, surprise revelations, amnesia, locked rooms and locked asylums, and an unorthodox villain made this mystery thriller an instant success when it first appeared in 1860, and it has continued to enthrall ever since. From the hero's foreboding before his arrival at Limmeridge House to the nefarious plot concerning the beautiful Laura, the breathtaking tension of Collins's narrative created a new literary genre of suspense fiction, which profoundly shaped the course of English popular writing.

I tried for over two hours to get into it. I kept thinking that the story would pick up the pace and the plot would develop. But it was too painful to continue. I even set the speed up to 1.25x to try and get the story moving! Sorry to give up. I never do that.

Even at her birth, the slave women around her recognize a dark power that they - and she - will come to both revere and fear. Not sure what I was expecting. The narrator did an excellent job of giving the main character a voice that would fit the time and geography of the book's setting - Jamaica in 1800. However, a true plot never really developed and more than half the book just followed the character through a miserable, graphically told, abused situation as a slave on a small plantation. The hate and the violence were apparently the plot. So be warned. I finished the book simply because I kept thinking there would be some redeeming moral or lesson to be learned. Nope.
