Story
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

This is getting a TV show?
Reviewed: 05-24-22
I became interested in this from an Ad on an upcoming Amazon TV show. I figured the story must be interesting so I gave it a "read", I really hope the TV show comes up with a lot better characters and story and is just loosely based off this book. I can't help but compare this book to B.S.'s book "True Allegiance" or C.K.'s book "American Sniper". It's a combination of those two books/styles imo. It really stopped being interesting about halfway through and it's obvious what is going to happen.
The main character isn't likeable. At one point he goes into an explanation on how people feel bad for killing other people, and he says something like, "Not me, I feel a sense of relief, that guys dead and I'm not. I did the right thing" Something like that. I think that was the point where I just felt like I was being lied to. I really had a tough time understanding who was the bad guy after this. Ultimately it's about defending the country, no matter how bad your actions are,.. So aren't the Villains going to do a better job defending the country than the main character? I'm trying not to spoil it but the main character seems to be ignoring a lot of parallel's in his thinking to the bad guys thinking and actions.

Misleading Subtitle

I expected stories about the world's most successful people but got stories of a guy having a "college road trip" style experience trying to meet the world's most successful people. I found a lot of this story to be way too much 1st person experiences and short retellings of meeting with the world's most successful people.
The description of the book makes this all pretty clear but I jumped in only reading the sub title.
That being said, there is a point in this book where things get far more interesting. It's towards the end unfortunately but he has an epiphany about who he was interviewing and I realized I hadn't realized that fact either. The experiences after that seem far more personal and important. The author's style doesn't change in how he's writing the book which leaves me wondering if he realized the difference in his interviews towards the end but those last few interviews stand out in my mind while almost everything else he did prior to that just felt...routine? I'm not sure what is the best word to describe it. I didn't feel like I learned anything worth committing to memory but the few stuck.
I came to this book after reading a book about Nicholas Meyers and then Sid Meier so I was expecting another journey through the life of people who's shaped my world. I'd like to read a book like that and I hope the author of this book goes on to write something like that.

I enjoyed this book but I felt like there was a lot more story to tell or maybe I just wanted the story to go on. The narrator was difficult to hear, I'd turn it up often but with any other stuff going on nearby I could barely hear it. Compared to other King novels this is a "short" story. An interesting character in an almost interesting world. I thought the last few chapters introduced a lot of new info that could have made the world a lot more interesting but the story seems to wrap up rather than open up which is what I'm used to in King novels.

Story
When Nicholas Meyer was asked to direct the troubled second Star Trek film, he was something less than a true believer. A best-selling author and successful director, he had never been a fan of the TV series. But as he began to ponder the appeal of Kirk, Spock, et al., he realized that their story was a classical nautical adventure yarn transplanted into space and - armed with that insight - set out on his mission: to revitalize Trek.

This book is an interesting look into a life spent at the fbi. It's easy to forget about all the things that happened in the bush administration that comey was involved in when the Obama administration was so quiet by comparison. The only fbi investigations people remember today are "EMAILS" and "RUSSIA".
I didn't realize how separated this institution was until recent events and this book is a great reason why that needs to be the case forever.
