Slow first half, but picks up toward the end
Reviewed: 05-24-19
I struggled to get into the story on this one. The first 2/3 of the book was such a slow build but once it did start picking up, I couldn't put it down. The performance was great. The only gripe I had with the overall story is the main character would whine everytime her beaus wouldn't talk to her every 5 minutes. Granted she was a teenager in parts off it, it was still annoying. Overall, I'm glad I listened to it and I totally didn't expect the ending!

Fantastic story and narration!

I loved listening to this incredible story! The development of the characters and rich descriptions made this book very enjoyable. The ending was also a beautiful surprise. The narrator was amazingly authentic and made you feel like you were right in their tiny German town. I also enjoyed the commentary from the author at the end of the book about how she learned of this true story in her family and how ordinary people can do extraordinary things to prove that their reality today doesn't have to be their reality tomorrow.

Story
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Fantastic until the end...

Would you consider the audio edition of Gone Girl to be better than the print version?
Probably because the characters have their own voice in the audio version.
What did you like best about this story?
I really liked the suspense! The entire story was excellent up until the end. I was a little disappointed with the ending, I won't spoil anything but I would give this book overall a 4.5.
Which scene was your favorite?
There were so many twists and turns in the book it is hard to pick one!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I just thought it was a unique, well written book.
Any additional comments?
I am going to check out other books from this author because this one was so good!

Never listened to a story about Egypt before...
Reviewed: 12-14-13
What made the experience of listening to The Sekhmet Bed the most enjoyable?
The narration was really enjoyable. I have never listened or read a story about ancient Egypt before and the way the story was told pulled me in and I didn't want to stop listening!
What did you like best about this story?
I really loved the all the small details and descriptions of the characters day to day lives but it was the dramatic twists in the book that made it a "page-turner". All of the Characters were very well developed and it had me on edge wondering what was going to happen next. I loved the whole thing from start to finish!
Have you listened to any of Amanda C. Miller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't before, but will in the future!
If you could rename The Sekhmet Bed, what would you call it?
I think the name suits the book well, I wouldn't change it.
Any additional comments?
I am really hoping that the other books in this series comes to audiobook soon!
