Story
In 2009 Clinton Romesha of Red Platoon and the rest of the Black Knight Troop were preparing to shut down Command Outpost Keating, the most remote and inaccessible in a string of bases built by the US military in Nuristan and Kunar in the hope of preventing Taliban insurgents from moving freely back and forth between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Three years after Keating's construction, the army was finally ready to concede what the men on the ground had known immediately: It was simply too isolated and too dangerous to defend.

Story
Chief Petty Officer James "Patches" Watson was there at the start. One of the first to come out of the famed Underwater Demolition Team 21, he was an initial member—a "plank owner"—of America's deadliest and most elite fighting force, the U.S. Navy SEALs. Through three tours in the jungle hell of Vietnam, he walked the point—staying alert to trip wires, booby traps, and punji pits, guiding his squad of amphibious fighters on missions of rescue, reconnaissance, and demolition—confronting a war's unique terrors head-on, unprotected . . . and unafraid.

Solid start for the series
Reviewed: 11-20-24
I would like to start by saying that beyond the solid reviews, my choice to begin listening to this series was made when I saw that Ray Porter was the narrator. For his part, Ray validated my decision by delivering another brilliant performance. The story was solid with a few flaws that likely will not bother most listeners. As such, I’m not going to list them and will let the people decide for themselves.
Personally, looking forward to beginning book two. If you read this review and like a good thriller, give this book a listen.

Story
Still recovering from his near fatal wounds suffered at the Yellow Creek Nuclear Plant, Delta Force Commander, Major Kolt "Racer" Raynor, is thrust into a new battle with some of the toughest killers he's ever faced - US Navy SEALs. Government austerity measures have the Joint Chiefs of Staff contemplating the unthinkable - combining Delta Force and the SEALs into a single unit: One Killer Force. In this installment of Dalton Fury's Delta Force series, Kolt's career is in jeopardy and worst of all, the final say rests in the hands of men who have reasons to want to see Kolt gone.

Best book in the series thus far
Reviewed: 09-03-24
One man’s opinion, this is the best book of the series so far. I’m sad that I only have one book left and there will never be another book five. I am also sad that the narrator never bothered to learn how words are actually pronounced. Thankfully, I think a Chin-ook (otherwise know as a chinook) was only mentioned once in this particular story. I suppose that a good portion of that onus could be largely on Macmillan audio for not bothering to catch the errors as of yet. In addition to the grammatical errors there are also instances where the main character is not involved in a scene, ,albeit not even in the same geographical area, but the narrator begins by laying out the scene with the proper character then randomly changes the character to Colt, then back to the proper character.
The author, for his part has definitely grown as a writer and the story was the most compelling, and least predictable book to date. I was left scratching my head on some of the mistakes that the seasoned operators made (some of them critically so) but I suppose we all make mistakes. I have high hopes for the 5th and final book in the series.

Book 2 was better than book 1
Reviewed: 08-15-24
As the title notes, I enjoyed book two even more than the first book. This book was still largely predictable but unlike book one, I did not guess the fate of every character introduced. I was correct on the major events though. The narrator has some real talent, my only hope as I get set for book three, the narrator or the editor will spend time to learn how to pronounce some of the basic words. Please note that these views reflect my opinion, without a bunch of sugar coating and overall, I truly enjoyed the read. Hopefully you do too.

Before anything else, I would like to thank all the operators and support personnel that put their life on the line for us. You all make a difference on the world stage without looking for fame and fortune. Very few will ever know the full impact of your actions.
Having finished book one in the series I am looking forward to seeing the progression of the writer, the narrator, and of course Racer. With that said, Racer has zoomed past a GRAYed out man and moved into second place in my action / thriller category. If Racer makes it past a fellow operator that has his own TERMINAL mission and into first will depend on how much intrigue can added to the story. The contrast between an author that can lean on his own experiences and one that is using his imagination is something that seems invaluable for bringing the a reader into combat. In this book, I was able guess who lived and died almost from the moment they were introduced, having guessed wrong on one occasion. The narrator I thought did a great job save for the fact that the word “Chinook” is pronounced shu-nuk not chin-ook.
Have a good ‘n. Book two is already in queue.

Well done
Reviewed: 11-21-22
This is to be a short review I think. The story is one that is griping. Like many good stories it tends to build slowly but when the small details weave together to reveal the finished product, it will prove to be very well done I think.
I picked up this series in part because of the narrator. Having heard his work in the Wheel of Time series, I knew he can help bring a story to vivid life. There is however one character that I wish he had not voiced in the way he did. Spook I think, deserved better.
Will you agree? Obviously, I do not know but neither will you unless you give it a listen.

Are we all broken?
Reviewed: 02-09-22
This series has been gripping, it has been entertaining, and at times it seems to drag.If you asked, would I recommend investing your time to read the series, I would likely say, yes, read it. Obviously, without knowing you personally, it would seem very presumptuous of me to say definitively, one way, or another.
For example, if you enjoy characters with many layers, you may find this a rewarding listen. If you enjoy vivid pictures being painted by word play, you will likely enjoy this series. Alternatively, if you do not enjoy a dazzling array of characters, that manifest mental instability of one kind or another, you may not enjoy the read.
Personally, the book’s build to a proper crescendo, and I will look forward to the next installment. Is it right for? You decide!
