Great "Summer" Read

Excellent narration, great plot, very different story. Not King's usual super natural or science fiction bend, but it keeps you reading to the very end amongst a fast paced plot.

Story
Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

Best Book I've Read in a Long Time
Reviewed: 05-17-21
This book is about a little girl who wanders off and goes missing. Throughout the book you get the point of view from each person's perspective until the plot unfolds at the very end. The motivation of why these people did what they did makes the reader feel empathy or anger for each person. I could see myself in each situation and think, "I can understand why he did that." or "What a douche bag." Best most interesting plot twist I've read in a book in a long time.

It all begins on an ordinary fall morning, when Kelly Medina gets a call from her son’s pediatrician to confirm her upcoming "well-baby" appointment. It’s a cruel mistake; her son left for college a year ago, and Kelly’s never felt so alone. The receptionist quickly apologizes: There’s another mother in town named Kelly Medina, and she must have gotten their numbers switched. For days, Kelly can’t stop thinking about the woman who shares her name. Lives in her same town. Has a son she can still hold, and her whole life ahead of her. She can’t help looking for her.

This book combines historical events with a plot unseen in previous works surrounding events during WWII. A bit of a Dan Brown search mixed with some Stephen King super natural twist. Definitely will read more works by this author.

Story
Beth Montgomery seems to have the perfect life: a beautiful house in the hills above Los Angeles, a handsome, ambitious husband, and plans of starting a family. So it doesn't occur to her to worry when the news breaks of a quadruple homicide across town, a botched drug deal that leaves an undercover officer among the dead. Beth certainly would never think to tie the murders to the sudden reappearance in her life of wild, sexy Cassie Ogilvy, the estranged best friend she hasn't seen since they were college roommates.
