Story
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

unbelievable story
Reviewed: 05-02-19
This story was so unbelievable. Tara is so brave to share what her childhood was like and it really made me think about how many people are living like her family out there. I do not know her but it made me proud of her and her accomplishments. the narrator was easy to understand with a great voice for reading. love everything about this.

the story is okay but...
Reviewed: 04-15-19
The story is okay but it made one of the characters who was in their 20s sound like a 10 year old. I do get what the author was going for but it was a little off putting to me. I enjoyed the aspect of magic that wasn't "let me pull my wand out and move that object with my mind." Don't get me wrong. I enjoy that too but this just seemed a bit more believable. Would I read another book with these characters, yes because in the end they seemed to "grow up" and if the story continues I think I would enjoy it because of the rest of the characters and the plot.

I loved this book.the old Hollywood glam and the love story mixed in with history and the hardships that many people in history met with. I feel that I should not give away too much of this story but it was not what I expected and it made me love this book even more. the twist will shock you and keep you reading/listening.

I enjoyed how easy the story was. I found that there were too many characters at times and a bunch were needless. the narrator was one of my least favorites ive ever listened to.
