Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

This is one of the most engaging books I've had the pleasure of enjoying. Every new revelation makes you want to know more. it's a modern day Lord of the Flies set in an amusement park, told in the style of World War Z. I intend to go through this author's entire catalog. it was that good.

Best Book I've Read This Year
Reviewed: 10-31-21
This is by far the best book I've read all year. The only reason I didn't read it all in one sitting is work. Everything is beautifully crafted. I was on the edge of my seat and screaming. That is brilliant writing.

Story
It’s true. I’m not what most people would call “pretty” and, well, high school was rough. Fast forward ten years and life is good, until a bunch of jerks think it’s hilarious to put the “butterface” (AKA me) on a wedding Kiss Cam with the hottest guy ever - and that old humiliation hits hard. I recognize him immediately. The hottest cop in Waterbury and totally out of my league. But then he kisses me. And we totally forget the room, the crowd, everything. Then he tells everyone we’ve been dating for months.

Flynn delivers laughs and romance it this wonderful tale of conflicting ideologies. In order to be together, both characters have to face some difficult truths. The heroine is utterly relatable, grounding the story in a way that makes it all seem more real.

The Battle of Serenity Valley was the turning point that led the Independents to their defeat at the hands of the Alliance. Yet the Browncoats had held the valley for weeks against all odds, before being ordered to lay down their arms. Command stated they refused to send in airpower because the ground war was "too hot". But the soldiers who were there insist that was not true.... While picking up a new cargo on Persephone, Captain Malcolm Reynolds is kidnapped by a bunch of embittered veteran Browncoats who suspect him of sabotaging the Independents during the war.

Like most people, I decided to explore this collection of stories after seeing the Netflix series. Geralt of Rivia was not a stranger to me thanks to the world of video games, but I find I like the Geralt of literature more than any other version. The characters leap off of the page. They come alive and make the world richer and fuller than any visual representation could ever offer.
