Couldn't finish it
Reviewed: 05-23-20
I hate quitting a book partway through and I hate returning books for full credit, but this was so dull and so pompous and so tone deaf and so.... I tried to finish it, but as I was mowing my lawn, I started dozing off. this book/narrator is definitely the cure for insomnia. I actually thought about keeping it JUST so I could listen to it on nights I can't sleep.

Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

I gave it a 2/5 because some people may be *super* into ridiculous cop tropes, horrible bbn let narration, etc. The storyline isn't even interesting enough for me to Google the ending. I just don't care.

Narration hasn't improved
Reviewed: 03-17-20
This took me way too long to finish. I had the worst time getting through it. The narrator emphasizes the weirdest words and the way she asks a question makes me want to rip my hair out. If it was ONE character asking questions this way, I would take it as a character quirk. Unfortunately, it was EVERY question in the book...amd there are a LOT of questions being asked since it is a mystery novella. The story was ok. The first one was better. I'll probably never find out who killed Samantha because I just can't listen to this narrator.

The story was short and sweet. The narrator drove me insane whenever one of the characters asked a question. Most of the characters sound the same. I'll listen to the next book only because I already own it.
