Story
Seven years ago, Miles Pussett was a steeplechase jockey, loving the rush of the race. But after an unfortunate event, he left horseracing behind and swore he would never return. Now he gets his adrenaline rush from riding headfirst down the Cresta Run, a three-quarter-mile Swiss ice chute, reaching speeds of up to eighty miles per hour. Finding himself in St Moritz during the same weekend as White Turf, when high-class horseracing takes place on the frozen lake, he gets talked into helping out with the horses. Against his better judgement, he decides to assist.

Serious Issues- great resolution.

I did like this book, even though it took me a little bit to stay on track with it. The mystery part didn’t come in until way later than it normally does. The issue of mental health comes up in this one which I think is important in this timeframe. It’s not normally an issue that Dick Francis would have tackled, buthis son is doing a fine job of it. If you started beef sure to finish it because it really does matter.

Story
When globe-hopping British First Secretary Peter Darwin returns to his childhood home for a visit, he is sorry. Waiting for him were long-hidden memories, a string of racehorse deaths and homicide. As Darwin begins to realize that the key to all of it involves his own past, he wishes he'd never come back, because he just might never leave again—alive.

another fabulous Dick Francis book

I especially enjoyed this book because the main character was not one of the normal Dick Francis characters intimately associated with the racing world. As a diplomat, Peter Darwin has other talents, not associated with the racing world. Wonderfully written characters, some you love some you hate. if you are a dick Francis fan you cannot miss this one.

Story
Like many well-to-do Upper East Siders over the age of 65, esteemed art appraiser Percival Skinner had planned to spend his retirement living off his savings. But a market correction has left him living below his prior means. One day he’s visited by a dapper fixer in search of a famous work by a Renaissance master. Skinner knows the work well: The original was owned by his ancestor, and was passed down through his family over the generations. If, as an intermediary, he can coordinate a sale, a small fortune awaits. Problem is, he might not be the only one on the make.

What a lovely, clever short story. The story grabbed me immediately due to the art subject and the narrator, John Lithgow;who was perfect for the part. He was engaging and evoked beautiful images of the painting . More, please.

Can you ever truly know your child???
Reviewed: 09-11-24
This book was well written, well read, but very disturbing. Nearly all the females in this book need serious help with their psyches! Some of them because of their DNA, some because of what happened to them. If you haven’t had children yet, I would advise against reading/ listening to this book. Truly shocking and thought provoking.

I’ve always enjoyed Dick Francis novels, knowing there’s going to be intrigue, fabulous twists in the storyline and always a satisfying resolution. His characters are well drawn, some thoroughly likable and some thoroughly horrible as you need in every great story.

Story
On a flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that’s going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché. But their game turns a little darker when Ted jokes that he could kill Miranda....
