Story
FBI special agent Zoe Spencer uses skeletal remains to recreate the faces of murder victims through sculpture. Though highly scientific, the process is also sensitive and intimate; she becomes attached to the individuals she identifies, desperate to find justice for each. As Zoe examines old remains, she sees a teenage girl looking back at her - the victim in a cold case from over a decade ago.

To many characters thrown into the pot. Still not sure of where it was taking me. Story would have been more enjoyable if narrator could have gotten “into” the characters.

Story
Fourteen years ago, Kaitlin Roe was the lone witness to the abduction of her cousin Gina. She still remembers that lonely Virginia road. She can still see the masked stranger and hear Gina’s screams. And she still suffers the guilt of running away in fear and resents being interrogated as a suspect in the immediate aftermath. Now Kaitlin has only one way to assuage the pain and nightmares—by interviewing everyone associated with the unsolved crime for a podcast that could finally bring closure to a case gone cold.

It took some unraveling to sort things out. I enjoyed the storyline, but the narration needed help. Most was read in sing-song rhythm. Voices were pretty good but I just had to ignore the cadence.

Excellent murder mystery. The only drawback I found was the explicit sexual scenes and language; however, I had warning. Good characterisation and detail in other areas that brought the story to life (or death as the case may be).
Beverly Barton is an excellent author and Karen White was spot on.

Story
Carlin Reed lives in fear, off the grid, moving from place to place. So Battle Ridge, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of nowhere, seems like a good place to lie low for a while. But after becoming cook and housekeeper to cattle rancher Zeke Decker, Carlin suspects that she’s made her first mistake. Rugged, sexy, and too distracting for his own good, Zeke is pure temptation mixed with something deep and primal that makes Carlin feel almost safe. Soon things are getting way too hot in the kitchen.

She’s trying to run below radar, and the little town in beautiful Wyoming holds possibilities for temporary refuge. The handsome rancher, A. Z. (Lol!) calls her a stray which doesn’t go over well, but she’s snarky and growing stronger every day.
Howard & Jones make quite the writing team and Maggie Wheeler reeled me in. This is one for my favorites list.

I just had to re-read again. We’ve opened our hearts and homes to multiple Goldens. You can’t go wrong with love of family, Golden Retrievers, and Mr. Koontz. Throw in a baddie or two and you have perfection.
