Loved it! Original, well written and excellent narration. This story captivated me so I literally could not put it down! I rarely write reviews but I had to share as soon as I finished. Do not start this book unless you have plenty of time! I literally stood up until 6:00 a.m. to finish it despite the fact I am working today. Like this one since childhood. I listen to audio books everyday and was just starting to get a bit jaded by how similar so many of the stories I have been listening to. Then I listened to this story and I am excited to "read' again. I'm not going to say anymore because I don't want to give anything away, but I highly recommend this book even if this is not your typical genre as it was not mine.

I thought really enjoyed listening to this book. The narration was excellent and I could clearly follow the different characters. To some readers that found this unrealistic I disagree. As a psychologist obsession, delusional thinking, and depression were accurately portrayed. This is an important part of psychological thrillers for me. All in all give it a try. If your not connected by the 5th chapter and dont like it try something else. I was hooked!

Story
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

Any additional comments?
WARNING: Do Not start listening to this book if you cannot hear it in its entirety! Remember to breathe!
The tension is literally unbearable. I had to stay up all night to listen to Into the Water, it is completely addictive! This is definitely another example of Paula Hawkins storytelling genius. The narrative is more complex and she displays a more mature writing style than in The Girl on a Train. It is not a book you want to read at the beach as you don't want to be disturbed. The audio performance was absolute perfection down to each inflection of word and breath.
As a psychologist of over 20 years, I felt that every single character rang true. Paula Hawkins has an understanding of personality, emotions and memory that I have never experienced in a fictional novel. Through the book you will be able to examine the terrifying emotions that one thinks they are the only ones to experience. The personality of each character is exceptionally imperfect. I hated and loved or at least could empathize with each one and clearly see from their perspective. PH has a clear understanding of the differences between adolescent and adult thinking, the intricacies of family and have a small-town operates. The central character, Lina, being a teenager, is someone who exasperate us but end up loving and wanting to help. I think the different characters will definitely appeal to different readers and may change based on where you are right now in your life.
I usually only listen to a book once but I am on my third listen and am I going to buy the physical book so I don't miss one word! I was held in horrible suspense until the very last word when I was thrown right off of the cliff myself!I do not write books reviews but felt obligated to because of how magnificent this book is. Into the Water has instantly become my absolute favorite and is sure to become a classic.

A definite read for fans of serial killer type stories and will be overwhelming for those of us who like to read about the underlying thoughts, morals and dysfunctional thinking from all perspectives. I will be looking for more books by this author as I loved the language, characters and format of the writing. Don't start to read this book if you don't have time to read or listen in its entirety as you will be unable to put it down!
