Story
America’s backstory is a whitewashed mythology implanted in our collective memory. It should come as no surprise that the dominant narrative of American history is blighted with errors and oversights—after all, history books were written by white men with their perspectives at the forefront. It could even be said that the devaluation and erasure of the Black experience is as American as apple pie. In Black AF History, Michael Harriot presents a more accurate version of American history.

The American narrative always feels shallow and deceptive. This helped unpack some of the reasons why. Thank you!

Really thought this was going somewhere else when I started it. Such an upsetting situation. I am not much of a binger due to time constraints. Thankfully started listening to this on a long drive. I wouldn’t have been able to stop listening.

So well researched and written. A good hard look at the history of the horrific era of the American slave trade. I appreciated hearing the many ways in which our works today is built on what came before. Thank you Mr. Smith for your work.

Story
In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the darkest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-anthology podcast set in the shadows of an Alternate Appalachia, a place where digging too deep into the mines was just the first mistake. To learn more about Old Gods of Appalachia, visit our website at...

What a world to get lost in!

I love the storylines, the storytelling and the music. The narrator has mastered the art of storytelling and keeps the various voices of characters he brings to life intact and paints the picture of the alternate Appalachia perfectly. The other voice actors also completely embody their roles and keep me captivated. Keep it coming!
