I’m triggered, but I have a choice

Thank you Kelly for your beautiful story. Most especially for the reminder of the tool of CHOICE. Choice of spiraling into my suffering, or noticing what IS good around me and choosing to focus on that with Gratitude.

With unforgettable characters, a sweeping backdrop, and passionate storytelling, this is a fantasy debut to rival that of Robert Jordan. Filled with adventure and bloodshed, pageantry and piracy, mystery and menace, Assassin's Apprentice is the story of a royal house and the young man who is destined to chart its course through tempests of change.

The story is well written and well presented. Details of the atmosphere are strong enough to submerge the reader into the story, but not so thick as to make it boring. The characters are strong and believable.

YA level story
Reviewed: 11-13-23
While I do enjoy this story, it is a YA level. The fantasy world is only developed in the area of action. The culture values of the characters from the “real” world really bleed over into the fantasy world and are a strong part of the story. I’m quite done with Christian values, and also rampant violence in hard core novels. I am always looking for something with more flexibility than US culture norms without delving into the deep dark. I was hoping this story would fit there, but not quite. It leaves me wanting a better developed story.

Story
For centuries, the vineyards at Château Renard have depended on the talent of their vine witches, whose spells help create the world-renowned wine of the Chanceaux Valley. Then the skill of divining harvests fell into ruin when sorcière Elena Boureanu was blindsided by a curse. Now, after breaking the spell that confined her to the shallows of a marshland and weakened her magic, Elena is struggling to return to her former life. And the vineyard she was destined to inherit is now in the possession of a handsome stranger.

Great witch story.

Good story, interesting intrigue and mystery, light romance, love wins. Good research on herbs and spells.
The story has a flow nearly as in depth as the wine described.
