Story
I’m here, standing in front of my one-night stand’s house, working up the courage to ring the doorbell and tell him I’m pregnant. I hate that term—one-night stand. It sounds so cheap and sleazy. Tobias Holiday is neither of those things. He’s handsome and caring. Witty and charismatic. And once, a long time ago, he was mine. Our one-night reunion was only supposed to be a hookup. A fling with an old lover. A parting farewell before I moved to London and put my feelings for him an ocean away. How exactly am I supposed to explain that to Tobias that I’m having his baby?

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Four freshmen arrive at college from completely different worlds: Lainey, a California party girl with a flair for drama; Tyson, a brilliant scholar and aspiring lawyer from Washington, D.C.; Summer, an ambitious, recruited athlete from the Midwest; and Hannah, a mild-mannered southerner who is content to quietly round out the circle of big personalities. Soon after arriving on campus, they strike up a conversation in their shared dorm, and the seeds of friendship are planted.

Letdown
Reviewed: 09-04-24
I love Emily Giffin’s books and constantly pre order them. I have read every book she’s published but this was one of the worst books I’ve read this year. It doesn’t feel like her at all. The book focuses on three different characters but it’s not done well. I was never invested in the characters and could not stand one of them. The romance in the story felt rushed and out of nowhere. The book felt like she had writers block and used AI to help finish it. I’m so sad because this one of the ones I was looking forward to this year.

Reviewed: 11-28-23
If you like unrealistic hallmark movies this is for you. The story wasn’t bad but I really did not like the love interest. A lot of the characters fell flat however the elderly character had more depth. I could read a story just about his life.
