Story
Named sole heir to her aunt's estate, Charity Gannon arrives in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, hoping to find a link to her past. She's not looking for lost treasures; she is searching for a connection to the aunt she barely knew. What she finds is a 30-something-year-old mystery and questions with no answers. A sad, secluded cottage, all but hidden amid the vines. A man's suit of clothes, tainted with dried blood and a bullet hole. Four forgotten boxes, stuffed into a large bag and buried in the far corners of the shed.

Now the owners, a kindly older couple, are on the hook for the accidental death due to anaphylaxis, but they insist no mistakes were made on their part. This series is fantastic! This book is the icing on top! It’s got the laughs, the action & a murder. Everything we’ve come to expect as well as a surprise. Please don’t read/listen to this as a stand alone because you will miss out on too much. These books need a cautionary warning in the intro—-I burst out laughing several times waking my husband. Narration is great as always.

Story
Petra Grady has known since adolescence that she has no talent for magic—and that’s never going to change. But as a sweeper first-class, she’s parlayed her rare ability to handle dross—the damaging, magical waste generated by her more talented kin’s spellwork—into a decent life working at the mages’ university. Except Grady’s relatively predictable life is about to be upended.

I love that this story questions perceptions and the purpose of light and dark. I hope that this is a new series and not a one and done.

Even better than the first book. This one had a twist … and I love those! I initially decided to read the first book because it was free. It was a good story, but a simple one to figure out . The characters were so quirky and fun, that I had to read #2. Now I’m hooked and have to read on…
