Our 2025 Silmarillion journey continues with Chapter 5 of Quenta Silmarillion - Of Eldamar and the Princes of the Eldalië.
In Chapter 5, we come to find out how the three Elvish peoples (the Vanyar, the Noldor, and the Teleri) came to Aman, the Blessed Realm. We also learn a great deal more about the Noldor and the Teleri, and about the personalities of these groups of Elves. The princes of the Noldor, in particular, start to come into focus as key players near the end of the chapter.Hey there, fellow travelers!
Over the next several months, we'll be continuing to revisit the entire 30-episode Silmarillion series that Greta and I recorded back in 2022.

    Hey there, fellow travelers!
Our 2025 Silmarillion journey continues with Chapter 4 of Quenta Silmarillion - Of Thingol and Melian!
Over the next several months, we'll be continuing to revisit the entire 30-episode Silmarillion series that Greta and I recorded back in 2022.

Chapter 4 of The Silmarillion is a short and succinct “boy-meets-girl” story, or so a surface reading would suggest. However, as with most things Tolkien, there is much more to it than that, as it is in fact an important development in the history of Middle-earth, and in it we see key themes begin to develop to the point of fruition.

In Chapter 3, we finally embark upon something like a continuous narrative. Up to this point, much has been given by way of background, but chapter 3 is primarily concerned with the awakening of the Elves, their journey to Valinor, and another epic war against Melkor and his minions!

Calm down

Hi guys! I really enjoy your show. I’ve finally been able to follow along with the Silmarillion and looking to get back to those.

I’ve had a hard time with the shows geared around RoP. The amount of negativity towards timeline issues and basically everything else. There is a lot of good in the show too, so much that does stay true to Tolkien.

Literally the first thing I said when she mentioned Celeborn is “Oh good, John will be happy now” lol. But no, still complaining about them not having a daughter. There’s so many characters in this world and moving pieces, the storytellers do need to limit how many characters they add. I’m sure we will see him next season and she will get pregnant at the end of the show. It will be fine.

This is an awesome moment in time where we get to explore new places in Tolkiens world and this show has done an amazing job of that! Just enjoy it.

Longtime listener, finally able to leave a review

I've been a longtime listener, introduced first through Spotify. John and Greta do a great job bringing the works of Tolkien into podcast form and make a solid pair of presenters. When the show began, one of the hosts had written a book on Beren and Luthien; the other had almost no knowledge of Tolkien's works. As John and Greta journeyed through Tolkien's works, I (someone who's been reading Tolkien since I was 8) really appreciated the perspective Greta brought into the show. So many podcasts on Tolkien are just super fans; it was refreshing getting someone experiencing it all for the first time while being guided by someone of expert level. It would be foolish to think a podcast about Tolkien would not discuss religion at all, but I found this to always be more of a scholarly way of discussing it, and it's always been very level headed, anyone concerned about that should be at ease. It's been a wonderful 300 episodes and I'm thrilled to see what's to come. I'll end with a quote that I believe these two have followed pretty well. "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." The road goes ever on indeed, and I'm glad to be on it.
