    May 1 2025

    Have you ever thought…

    • Why am I always behind, no matter how early I start?
    • Why does it feel like I’m working nonstop, but never getting ahead?
    • Why am I so stressed when I’ve done this job for years?
    • Why does everyone else seem more confident than I feel inside?

If you’ve asked yourself questions like these, you're not alone.

To celebrate the 100th episode of The Smarter Accountant Podcast, I’m pulling back the curtain and sharing the six most common issues that accountants bring to coaching.

This episode is especially for you if:

    • You feel like work is bleeding into your personal life
    • You’re tired of doing everything yourself and still not feeling ahead
    • You want to understand why these issues keep showing up—and what to do about them

This episode will help you see the bigger picture of what’s really going on, and how small shifts in awareness can lead to major changes in how you think, feel, and work.

  • #97 - Why Motivation is Overrated (And What Actually Works)
    Apr 10 2025

Do you ever wonder why some people seem to push through no matter what, while you’re stuck waiting for that elusive spark of motivation to finally kick in?

And here’s the big one—what if I told you that motivation isn’t actually the key to getting things done?

In this week’s episode of The Smarter Accountant Podcast, I’m breaking down why motivation is overrated—and what actually works instead. Because let’s be honest, if motivation were the answer, wouldn’t we all be crushing our to-do lists every single day?

The truth is, motivation is fleeting. It’s unreliable. And if you’re waiting for it to show up before you take action, you might be stuck waiting forever.

So what do the most productive accountants rely on instead?

    Listen in and find out.

    In this episode, I discuss:

  • #96 - Confirmation Bias and How It Shapes Your Work as an Accountant
    Apr 3 2025

Have you ever expected a client to be difficult—and then, somehow, everything they did seemed to prove you right? Or convinced yourself you’re not great at something, only to keep finding “evidence” that confirms it?

What if your brain was just filtering reality to match what you already believe?

That’s exactly what we’re diving into on this week’s episode.

Confirmation bias is your brain’s built-in spotlight—it highlights what you expect to see and ignores everything else. And here’s the interesting part: it’s always running in the background, whether you realize it or not.

✔️ Think you’re bad at delegating? Your brain will find proof of every past failure and conveniently ignore your successes.
✔️ Believe a coworker is difficult? You’ll notice every frustrating interaction and miss the times they’re actually helpful.
✔️ Feel like you’re constantly behind? Your brain will focus on every moment of stress while filtering out the times you were on top of things.

The good news is that once you understand how confirmation bias works, you can use it to your advantage—rewiring your brain to focus on thoughts that empower you instead of holding you back.

    In this episode, I discuss:

✅ What Exactly Is Confirmation Bias?
✅ Why Confirmation Bias Matters for Accountants
✅ The Brain Science Behind Confirmation Bias
✅ How to Turn Confirmation Bias Into an Advantage
✅ Becoming a Smarter Accountant: Dealing With Confirmation Bias As An Accountant

    Mar 27 2025

Where do you work best? Not just where your desk is, but where you actually feel the most focused, productive, and balanced?

    • Is it the office, where you have structure and easy access to coworkers?
    • Or do you thrive at home, where you control your space (and avoid that dreaded commute)?
    • Or maybe you like a mix of both—the flexibility of remote work and the collaboration of office life?

The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, and what works for one accountant might not work for another.

But here’s something you might not have considered: Your brain plays a huge role in how well you function in each setup.

Intrigued? Then this episode is for you!

  • #94 - Why Hope Is Not A Time Management Strategy For Accountants
    Mar 20 2025

Be honest—have you ever caught yourself hoping tomorrow will be a little calmer? Hoping your inbox won’t be overflowing? Hoping you’ll finally have time to get everything done?

I get it. Hope feels good. It’s comforting. But let’s be real—how often does it actually work?

Hope might make you feel better in the moment, but it’s not a time management strategy. And yet, so many accountants lean on it like it’s the secret to getting through the day.

If you’ve ever said things like:

✔️ I hope my clients get me their documents on time
    ✔️ I hope I don’t get interrupted this morning
✔️ I hope I can catch up on my to-do list this week

…then you’ll want to tune in to this week’s episode.

    In this episode, I discuss:

✅ The Comfort of Hope and Its Hidden Costs
✅ Why Hope Alone Isn’t Enough for Time Management
✅ The Brain Science Behind Hope and Procrastination
✅ How to Move from Hope to Intentional Action

  • #93 - Everything You Need To Know About Handling Interruptions
    Mar 13 2025

How often do you start your day with a plan, only to have it derailed by constant interruptions?

A phone call here, an email ping there, a colleague stopping by with a “quick question”—before you know it, your focus is shot, and you're scrambling to pick up where you left off.

Now, let me ask you this:

    • How many times a day do you get interrupted?
    • How long does it take you to get back on track after each one?
    • What would your workday look like if you could reclaim those lost hours?

Here’s something that might shock you—on average, professionals lose two hours every single day to interruptions and the time it takes to refocus. That’s 10 hours a week—an entire workday—just slipping away.

But what if it didn’t have to be this way?

    In this episode, I discuss:

✅ The Four Types Of Interruptions
✅ The Hidden Costs Of Interruptions for Accountants
✅ The Brain Science Behind Interruptions
    ✅ The Power of Boundaries
✅ Becoming a Smarter Accountant: Learning To Effectively Handle Interruptions
