  • 317: Greater Righteousness
    Apr 22 2025

Jesus redefines what it means to live rightly before God—not through rigid rule-keeping, but through a heart transformed by love. Set against the backdrop of the Sermon on the Mount, today we explore how Jesus fulfills the Law and the Prophets, calling his followers to embody the justice, mercy, and faithfulness God has always desired. From anger to love, from legalism to true covenant loyalty, Jesus invites us to become a new kind of people—formed by the story of Scripture and shaped by His character.

  • 316: Salt, Light, and a City
    Apr 15 2025

Jesus doesn’t begin the Sermon on the Mount with commands—He begins with identity. “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” These aren’t tasks to perform, but deep truths to live from.

In this episode, we explore three powerful, identity-shaping metaphors Jesus gives His followers: Salt, Light, and a City on a Hill. These aren’t random illustrations—they’re rooted in the Hebrew Scriptures and steeped in covenant language. Salt reminds us of God’s enduring faithfulness. Light reflects our calling to reveal God’s presence in a dark world. And a City? It’s a picture of a visible, communal people where others encounter the reign of God.

Through this lens, we’ll see how Jesus redefines what it means to be blessed and challenges us to live lives that are distinct, illuminated, and grounded in the story of God.

Whether it’s in our neighborhoods, workplaces, or online spaces, Jesus is calling us to be a preserving presence, a revealing light, and a visible people shaped by His Kingdom.

    Key Themes:

    • Salt as covenant loyalty
    • Light as God’s mission
    • The Church as a City that reflects God’s kingdom

    Scripture Focus:

    Matthew 5:13–16 (NIV)
"Let your light shine..." not to draw attention to ourselves, but to glorify our Father in heaven.”

  • 315: The Beatitudes
    Apr 8 2025

Explore the gospel, the good news of the kingdom of God. Rooted in the promises of the Hebrew Scriptures, Jesus announces a new kind of kingdom, one that breaks into the world through healing, justice, and restoration. Far from being limited to personal salvation, the gospel includes a radical reordering of values seen in the Beatitudes, where the poor, meek, and persecuted are called blessed.

  • 314 Sermon On The Mount (Intro)
    Apr 1 2025

In this episode of the SimplyRevised Podcast, we begin a new series exploring the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7), one of Jesus’ most profound and transformative teachings. Before diving into the sermon, we first step back to understand how Matthew structures his Gospel to present Jesus as the fulfillment of Israel’s story—the true and faithful Israel and the new Moses.

Matthew arranges his Gospel around five major teaching sections, mirroring the five books of Moses. From His baptism to His time in the wilderness, Jesus walks the path of Israel, He remains faithful where Israel failed. When He ascends the mountain to teach, He is not just giving good moral instruction but revealing the way of God’s Kingdom.

As we embark on this journey through the Sermon on the Mount, we are challenged to consider Jesus’ words: “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24).

Will we merely listen, or will we follow? Join us as we begin this important study of the Kingdom way.

  • 311 The Revelation of Loyal Love
    Mar 11 2025

Today we explore how Jesus is the ultimate revelation of hesed, God’s steadfast and loyal love. Building on Exodus 34:6-7 and the parable of the Lost Son in Luke 15, we see that hesed is not just an attribute of God but is fully embodied in Jesus. Through His incarnation, ministry, and ultimate sacrifice on the cross, Jesus demonstrates unwavering, covenantal love—seeking the lost, forgiving the undeserving, and serving even His betrayers. As His followers, we are called to reflect this same hesed in our lives through forgiveness, service, and sacrificial love.

  • 310 The Father's Love
    Feb 25 2025

In our last episode of this series, we explored the character of God as revealed in Exodus 34:6-7, where He describes Himself as "compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth." We traced this idea of lovingkindness, meaning: “loyalty; or faithfulness. God is loyal love. Turning to the New Testament how this same love is revealed in Jesus' teachings. One of the most powerful examples is found in Luke 15:11-32, the parable of the prodigal son.
