Starting as a bank teller at 17, Jennings climbed the ranks to become the president, CEO, chairman of the board, and director of Sarasota Bank. She then transitioned to politics, becoming the Democratic nominee for the United States Congress representing Florida's 13th congressional district. Later, as the CEO of the West Coast Black Theatre Troupe, Jennings established a debt-free financial climate, built a diverse board of trustees, secured a permanent home for the troupe, and transformed it into a thriving arts center serving culturally diverse communities.
