    It was a great effort vs. a Rangers team on the ropes needing a win to avoid playoff elimination. From the jump the Canes set the tone and would go up 3-0 before NY scored. The top line was excellent. Carrier returned from injury. Chatfield and Martinook had goals.

    The Hurricanes went to Washington looking to improve their road record. The Canes lead 2-0, then allowed four straight, before scoring two goals to send it to OT tied at 4. Carolina killed a penalty in overtime, but lost in the shootout (0-1). 4-5 final score.
