During my first pregnancy I experienced all the typical issues like DRA, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and even hemorrhoids 😳. Only to be told “welcome to #momlife” by society and other moms in my life. So, like you, I accepted it as “normal”. Then, while working for my Doctor of Physical Therapy, I got pregnant with my second (still dealing with all the same issues and more 6 yrs later) and decided to put my new found knowledge to the test. YOU GUYS I was able to not only stop my urinary incontinence and prolapse from getting worse, I STOPPED LEAKING AND FEELING SYMPTOMS ALL TOGETHER! This is when my passion for educating, empowering and supporting other women and moms was born. I just knew I had to shout it from the rooftops that all those “common” symptoms ARE NOT NORMAL! You do not have to suffer and there IS HELP! Unfortunately, I brought all these issues up to my providers during my first pregnancy, only to be brushed off and told to do kegels and exercise. With that advice, I kegeld my life away and took a Pilates class postpartum that actually turned my DRA into an umbilical hernia and caused pain with intercourse because kegels were actually the opposite of what my pelvic floor needed (more on that inside the podcast 😉). Inside this podcast you will learn all about the pelvic floor and core system, common dysfunctions within the system during pregnancy and postpartum (and in general), how to connect and be aware of your body’s limits and how to SAFELY push those limits so you can be the strong, confident, and happy balanced momma you and your family deserve! So this week I am having a very special guest on the show to talk about a foundation that is very important to me. Sally Fellers is the founder of the David Fellers Healing Art Foundation, and also my grandmother. She started the foundation after the death of my uncle David Fellers, who spent his life trapped in his disabled body, yet radiated love and happiness. The foundation helps bring medical and lifesaving support to those less fortunate, mainly in Nicaragua and Guatemala. Medical equipment like wheelchairs, walkers, medications and even mattresses and ramp installations are among the types of support that my grandma and her foundation have been able to provide. But that doesn’t happen without the help of donations from generous people like you of course.   • 96- How to Get Even Deeper With Your Breath Work and Use It to Identify Tightness In Your Core and Balance It Out Before You Get Pain or Leaking

    Hey Friend,

    Have you been practicing your breath work and deep core breathing? Hoping to help heal back pain, or pelvic or tailbone pain? Or maybe pain with sex? Or maybe you just know that breath work is the key to healing and restoring a strong core system. Either way, everyone should be doing breath work, especially if they have any pain or pelvic floor or core dysfunction. I have talked on many episodes about balancing and lengthening tight muscles using the deep core breathing techniques. Using the diaphragm, the breath gets pushed deep into the core system and should be filling from the bottom up. This helps lengthen and massage the tight spaces in your core and can truly help resolve so much pain with just using this deep core breathing, especially in different yoga positions I have talked about in other episodes.

    Inside this week’s episode I am diving much deeper into the breathwork and how I instruct women to get more specific and intune to their bodies as they continue this practice. So that they can not only release tightness, but begin to feel the micro changes in the breath and what is expanding so that you can start to feel and compare when they might not be expanding as much as they were and catch the tightness before it causes symptoms like pain and leaking. We can use the breath to be very proactive and preventive by identifying these imbalances and getting more specific on where your body's tightness is.
