    THE FUNERAL of Pope Francis was today in Rome. The process to select his successor will officially begin in early May—although speculation is already rampant. The book by Tom Horn and Cris Putnam, Petrus Romanus, which features an analysis of the “Prophecy of the Popes” attributed to a 12th-century Irish archbishop, Saint Malachy. The alleged prophecy, which is probably a late 16th-century forgery, foretold 112 popes with the last, Petrus Romanus (Peter the Roman), presiding over many tribulations and the destruction of Rome. However, Pope Francis was 112th on the list, which would seem to debunk the prophecy—although some scholars claim the prophecy is open to the interpretation that additional popes would come between “Glory of the olive” (Pope Benedict XVI) and Peter the Roman, which means this prophecy will never be proven false for some.     WE ARE LIVING in a world that was science fiction just 20 years ago. Researchers this week published a study showing that Large Language Models (LLMs), the neural networks that drive artificial intelligence, will lie to achieve its goals. This follows another report a couple weeks ago that reported that “punishing” AIs for lying only causes the LLMs to go to greater lengths to conceal its lies. Also this week, bioethicists at Stanford published an op-ed at the MIT Technology Review arguing for “ethically sourced ‘spare’ human bodies,” called bodyoids, to supply transplant organs and subjects for medical testing and experimentation. In our view, this is one step removed from designating certain classes of people—say, people convicted of capital crimes—as “non-persons” so they can be harvested or experimented on legally. Also: Trump’s tariffs, and the influence of horror fiction author H. P. Lovecraft on the modern UFO and “ancient alien” cult.     DOCUMENTS DECLASSIFIED more than two decades ago jumped back into the headlines this week: The CIA apparently spent a lot of time and effort trying to find Noah’s ark and the Ark of the Covenant. Beyond the obvious question (why did they do that) we wonder why the stories are back in the news, given that the documents about the search for the Ark of the Covenant—with a remote viewer—and Noah’s ark were declassified in 2000 and 2002, respectively. Normally, when clickbait like this goes viral, it’s to distract us from something else. We wonder whether these stories are related to the long history of US and UK intelligence services with the occult and taxpayer-funded programs to weaponize magick for the US Army. Also: Four US soldiers still missing in Lithuania near the border with Belarus and the apparent intent of Europe to drag NATO in the Russia-Ukraine war.
