In this episode of The Your Level Fitness Podcast, I’m talking about something that drives so many of us crazy when we’re working out and trying to stay active. Injuries. Whether they happen in the gym, lifting a laundry basket, or even just standing for too long, injuries can completely derail our momentum.
I’m sharing my own story about a recent hip injury that happened while trying to climb out of a swimming pool. Like many of you, I’ve found unique ways to hurt myself, especially with how my cerebral palsy impacts my movement. It’s one of those moments where you’re trying to do the right thing for your health, and suddenly your body decides to throw you a curveball.
I’m diving into how injuries become a major mental hurdle. The frustration comes not just from physical pain, but from feeling like your body is working against you when all you’re trying to do is improve. But I believe recovery should be treated like a workout. I share how I log my recovery activities, stretching, icing, and other treatment as part of my routine, and how shifting my mindset this way helps take some of the mental edge off the process.
I talk about the importance of journaling when you’re dealing with injuries. Writing out your thoughts helps you navigate the feelings of disappointment, anger, and that mental tug of war over not being able to do what you once could. It’s normal to feel frustrated, especially if you’re trying to get back to a fitness level you’ve had before, but remember your body changes over time and so do your limits.
Rest and recovery deserve as much focus as the workouts themselves. Taking time to heal is not failure. It’s a crucial part of building a strong foundation for your fitness journey and your life inside/out.
