  • The Murdaugh family was one of South Carolina's most powerful legal families. Three generations of Murdaughs held the position of solicitor in the lowcountry for almost one hundred years. In February of 2019 a boat crash killed 19 year old Mallory Beach. Paul Murdaugh, the son of prominent SC attorney, Alex Murdaugh, was charged with three felony counts of boating under the influence, including causing the death of Mallory Beach. June 7, 2021 Alex Murdaugh found his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, brutally murdered, shot to death on their property known as Moselle. On March 2, 2023 Alex was convicted of murdering Maggie and Paul. Between the murders and the convictions many other crimes came to light. No one could have expected the twists and turns the story has taken and it is not finished. Seton Tucker and Matt Harris started the Impact of Influence podcast soon after the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. You may have seen them talking about the Murdaugh saga on CourtTV, Murdaugh documentaries on Oxygen and Fox Nation and episodes on American Greed and Nancy Grace. Seton and Matt continue updating the Murdaugh story and are now covering other crimes that have occurred throughout the Southeast.     On September 30, 2024, Ty'Ran Tyrell Dixon, a professional football player from Columbia, SC was detained by law enforcement and told there was a warrant for his arrest of murder that occurred in Barnwell, SC on October 15, 2023. Dixon not only did not commit the murder, he was never even charged with the murder and he was never in Barnwell, SC. Dixon spent 66 days imprisoned. That included trips on "con-air" and over thirty days in solitary confinement. Dixon and his attorney, Joe McCullouch, talked to Seton and Matt about the nightmare that Dixon lived for over a month.     Asha Degree was just nine years old when she disappeared from her home in Shelby, North Carolina, more than 25 years ago. Since then, various law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal authorities, have been working to solve the case. In the past few months there appears to have been some movement in the case. In this episode we hear from the hosts of the podcast Crackhouse Chronicles https://www.crackhousechronicles.com/ . Donnie Peeler and Dale Champion, have been involved in the case of Asha Degree since her disappearance in 2000. They have done many episodes on the case since starting their podcast and have a unique vantage point due to the fact they are from Asha's hometown of Shelby, NC. In September 2024, several search warrants were executed by law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, as part of an investigation into the connection between Asha’s disappearance and a local family. These warrants named the Dedmon family members—Roy Dedmon, his wife Connie Dedmon, and their three daughters: AnnaLee Dedmon Ramirez, Lizzie Dedmon Foster, and Sarah Dedmon Caple. It was during the execution of these search warrants that investigators publicly announced for the first time that they believed Asha Degree had been murdered. Additionally, authorities suggested that the Dedmon sisters might have had a role in the suspected crime. However, the Dedmon family has consistently denied any involvement in the disappearance of Asha Degree. In February 2025, WBTV obtained three new search warrants related to the ongoing investigation. These warrants were executed on February 13, 2025, as part of the continuing effort to uncover the truth. A new witness has come forward, claiming to have heard a confession related to the case. At the time Asha disappeared, Lizzie Foster was 16 years old, and Sarah Dedmon Caple was 15. The witness stated that he had socialized with the Dedmon sisters at various bars and house parties in the mid-2000s. He alleged that during one particular house party, he overheard Foster confess something related to Asha’s disappearance.     Andy Moorman and Mark Moyer are the defense attorneys for Zachary Hughes, who was convicted of murdering Christina Parcell. The case was dubbed the Rose Petal Murder by Fitsnews. Andy and Mark discussed the case on this episode. In the previous episode we heard about the case from the solicitor's perspective. The trial of the murder of Christina Parcell began on February 10, 2025. It concluded 2/21/2025 with Zachary Hughes being sentenced to life for the murder of Parcell. Hughes had a very unusual defense. He admitted to killing Parcell but he claimed it was to protect her daughter. There are eight other episodes on this case. Those were released on January 10, 13, 21 February 14th and Feb 17th, February 24, March 4, and March 27. Here is more background on the Parcell case. On Oct 13, 2021, 41 year old Christina Parcell was found brutally murdered in Greer, SC. Parcell had suffered 31 stab wounds and www.Fitsnews.com dubbed the homicide the Rose Petal Murder because rose petals were found scattered around Parcell’s body. Shortly after her murder Parcell’s fiancé was arrested, but not on charges relating to her murder. Parcell had also been involved in a contentious custody battle with the father of her child. This horrific story involves murder and allegations of criminal sexual conduct with minors and buggery. Just Keeps Getting Better

I really am enjoying this podcast. Every time I listen, it gets better. They interview experts in various fields: from a local historian to a legal analyst, an expert on FOIA, and a local reporter who was first on the scene of the murders. It's educational and informative, and, most importantly, factual. I enjoy the conversational format as well; makes for easy listening, like being a guest at a dinner party with well-informed guests discussing the local Murdaugh saga.

No Depth

No depth or analysis of the issues in this case. Occasionally a guest will offer good insight. Hosts not so much. Compared to other Murdaugh Murder podcast this is very lacking. Still listen to see if I’ve missed any news but don’t enjoy as much.

I've listened to other Murdaugh Podcasts

but this one is a step above because it seems more objective than some of the others. No doubt that might irritate some, but for those of us who appreciate fact sharing and not dramatization, this is a great listen.
