On today’s Hello Houston, Celeste and guest host Doug Miller discuss the tragic flooding occurring in Central Texas as well as disaster relief efforts. Houston Public Media reporter Dominic Anthony Walsh joins us at the top of the first hour to give us the latest.
Also, in the first hour, Wall Street Journal reporter Jim Carlton breaks down the response to the conditions by both State and Federal agencies, and Dr. Marni Axelrad, a Pediatric Psychologist at Texas Children’s Hospital, joins us to discuss grief and how to talk to children about these kinds of disasters.
In the second hour, we hear from Lauren Allen, a former camp counselor for Camp Mystic who tells us more about the summer camp that was devastated by the floods, and Dave Gorham, a longtime Houston meteorologist, who now lives in Kerrville shares what he experienced from the heavy rainfall and destruction that occurred in the area.
Then, we talk with Dr. Kenneth Liao, who discusses the nation’s first fully robotic heart transplant on an adult patient performed at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston. Plus, Doug Suggitt and Justin Goodman tell us about The Periwinkle Foundation, an area charity helping children and families manage cancer and other life-threatening illnesses at Texas Children's Hospital.
