Acerca de esta escucha

An object that helped create the first map of Britain and one at the forefront of climate-change research. Bill tells the stories of the Great Theodolite that was used on the principle triangulation of Britain, and AATSR (Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer) that measures the temperature of the sea from space.

Both objects tell a story about why collaboration is so important in the field of scientific discovery from the teams that put together the first maps to the international fight against climate change. He is joined in this episode by Alex Rose, curator of Earth Sciences at the Science Museum.

This is a great intro to Bill. Bryson. Once you have enjoyed this title, I highly recommend A Short History of Nearly Everything. Bill is a master of educating while entertaining.

A great introduction to Bill Bryson.

I was thrilled see this short series of podcasts covering my favorite museum in London narrated by my favorite author, Bill Bryson.
Unfortunately the juxtaposition of objects seems forced. And the change in audio quality between the museum curator and Bryson made it evident that they weren’t talking to each other together.
But I wouldn’t miss a chance to listen to Bill talk about science.

My favorite author/narrator and favorite museum

This series is very enjoyable and the experts that Bill Bryson talks to really ties the different objects together really well. Well worth the listen

Bryson's narration is excellent and the subject: obscure scientific objects, is fascinating! Looking forward to the next chapters! The length of each episode is great too: appr. 15 minutes 2X a day is a good brain workout👍.
