He compares it to a parade welcoming home a sports champion. It is pointed out that the Jews expected him to be a warrior king to overthrow the Roman oppressor. The message that Jesus was sending by arriving on donkey is discussed. Dr. Hall also analyzes the symbolism of of the palm branches and the robes and cloaks tossed on the ground at the feet of Jesus’ donkey. Jesus came as a servant king, not a warrior king.
