  • Rep. Torres: combining stablecoin and market structure makes "it more complicated, not less"
    Jun 28 2025

    Who?

Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) — House Financial Services Committee

    LISTEN: Laslo & Torres

    Ask a Pol asks:

What do you think about the new House effort to combine market structure and stablecoin measures into one behmoath bill?

    Key Torres:

“I’d prefer to do one at a time,” Rep. Ritchie Torres exclusively tells Ask a Pol. “Both bills are complicated but market structure even more. Allowing a simpler piece of legislation to be held hostage by a more complicated piece of legislation strikes me as unwise.”

Anything you all learned from passing stablecoin out of the Senate when it comes to the next heavy lift for this Congress, ie establishing market structure for digital assets?

    Key Hagerty:

“Yeah, I think the momentum that we're going to build here is going to be widely felt across the industry and frankly, across the economy,” Sen. Bill Hagerty exclusively told Ask a Pol. “We've had an opportunity to condition my colleagues here in the Senate as to the importance of moving on to the 21st century payment system but also to expand their thoughts about the entirety of market structure.”

  • “It's done,” Gillibrand says of Senate stablecoin bill; next up market structure crypto bill
    Jun 19 2025

Visit Ask a Pol ~ asking your lawmakers your questions at your US Capitol ~What should we ask Congress next? Let us know!In our latest episode, Ask a Pol asks Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).

How are you feeling about stablecoin?

    Key Gillibrand:

“It's done,” Gillibrand — Original cosponsor, The GENIUS Act — exclusively told Ask a Pol Crypto. “I got two more votes. I got [Sen. Andy] Kim (D-NJ), and [Sen. John] Hickenlooper (D-CO) joined our vote last vote, and then we'll have one more on final passage.* So we'll have at least all those vote yes.”

*unless an agreement is reached to speed things up, final passage is expected Tuesday.

    Caught our ear:

Does it feel like this Congress is now ready to kinda tackle crypto and do other stuff?

“I’m hopeful. I do think that market structure is far more complex than stablecoin,” Gillibrand told us. “So I think it'll take a larger working group, and early review of early drafts to just try to get consensus earlier. It's gonna be a much heavier lift.”

  • Sen. Schatz: Trump crypto corruption shouldn't impact stablecoin | “What he's doing is already illegal"
    May 31 2025

Visit Ask a Pol ~ asking your lawmakers your questions at your US Capitol ~What should we ask Congress next? Let us know!In our latest episode, Ask a Pol asks Sen. Brian Schatz*

Are you worried stablecoin legislation may now be derailed because President Donald Trump and his family are profiting off digital currencies?

    Key Schatz:

“What he's doing is already illegal, so we don't actually need a statute for that,” Sen. Brian Schatz exclusively told Ask a Pol. “I would say his corruption complicates the conversation for sure, but I am not one of these people who think we need to make a new law to reiterate that the existing laws shouldn’t be broken.”

*Schatz is running to replace retiring Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) as the Senate Democratic Whip (aka, #2 most powerful Democrat in the upper chamber)
