  • 45. Theology of Satan and Demons: Spiritual Warfare
    Apr 1 2025

Can a Christian become demon possessed? Is "demon possessed" even the right term to use? We take a deeper look at how the New Testament actually describes the relationship between demons and humans and try to get a more precise understanding of what's being said there.

We also look at our role in confronting these evil spirits. The New Testament clearly describes them as attacking or harassing people. Jesus began a ministry of driving those evil spiritual beings out of those who are in his kingdom. The apostles and early Church continued that ministry, and from the descriptions we get in the New Testament, it sounds like we are meant to continue that ministry even today.

  • 44. Theology of Satan and Demons: Rebuke Satan but Focus on Sin
    Mar 20 2025

Do we find any evidence of demonic activity in the Old Testament? If not... then why is there so much demonic activity in the New Testament? How can we make sense of that?

We also look at the relationship between demons and our sin. For example, is it fair to blame our sin on the influence of demons? What actions in our lives make us more effective combatants against demons?

  • 43. Theology of Satan and Demons: Who They Are and What They Do
    Mar 11 2025

According to the Bible, God has an enemy. Because this enemy has set himself in complete and total opposition to God, he is completely and wholly evil, as opposed to God, who is completely and wholly good. Where did this enemy come from? If God created him, was he always evil? If not, then how and when did he become evil? What passages in the Bible seem to describe him, and what can we understand about God's chief enemy: the satan.

Wait... he has minions?! What are they, and what do they do?

  • 42. Theology of Angels: What Do Angels Do?
    Mar 5 2025

Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology: Chapter 19

There is one angel in particular who often seems to be set apart from other angels: the Angel of the Lord. After discussing what's going on with that particular angel, we dig into the various roles and jobs that we see angels perform in Scripture and how we benefit from the ministry of angels, today.

  • 41. Theology of Angels: God's Faithful Oxen and Snakes
    Feb 25 2025

Hallmark cards get angels about as wrong as possible. As cute as those naked, babies with wings are, the Biblical picture of spiritual beings is dramatically more interesting.

The Bible describes numerous interactions between humans and spiritual beings. These interactions often sound a bit strange to us in our modern context, so we'll be digging in to make sense of these servants of God as clearly as possible.

  • 40. Prayer: And When You Fast...
    Feb 12 2025

We continue our discussion of what aspects of our prayer life may make our prayers more effective. One of those things is fasting. Jesus assumes that his followers will regularly fast as believers did throughout the rest of the history of the Bible.

Fasting and several other habits of prayer are less commonly practiced in the modern West, but the Bible encourages us to continue praying privately, together as a body of believers, while fasting!

  • 39. Prayer: Making Your Prayers Powerful
    Feb 4 2025

There is a part of me that wishes God would answer prayer regardless of how I pray, but that doesn't seem to be what Scripture indicates. Instead, it appears that there are a number of things which can make our prayers more effective. This week, we look at what those are and pause to briefly considerwhy this might be the case.
