Acerca de esta escucha
Find hope even in these dark times with this rediscovered masterpiece, a companion to his international best seller Man's Search for Meaning.
Eleven months after he was liberated from the Nazi concentration camps, Viktor E. Frankl held a series of public lectures in Vienna. The psychiatrist, who would soon become world famous, explained his central thoughts on meaning, resilience, and the importance of embracing life even in the face of great adversity.
Published here for the very first time in English, Frankl's words resonate as strongly today - as the world faces a coronavirus pandemic, social isolation, and great economic uncertainty - as they did in 1946. He offers an insightful exploration of the maxim "Live as if you were living for the second time", and he unfolds his basic conviction that every crisis contains opportunity.
Despite the unspeakable horrors of the camps, Frankl learned from the strength of his fellow inmates that it is always possible to "Say yes to life" - a profound and timeless lesson for us all.

The majority of mortals, Paulinus, complain bitterly of the spitefulness of Nature, because we are born for a brief span of life, because even this space that has been granted to us rushes by so speedily and so swiftly that all save a very few find life at an end just when they are getting ready to live. Nor is it merely the common herd and the unthinking crowd that bemoan what is, as men deem it, an universal ill; the same feeling has called forth complaint also from men who were famous.

Stoics focus on the things they can control, let go of everything else, and turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better, stronger, tougher. As Marcus Aurelius put it nearly 2000 years ago: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

On Death and Dying began as a theoretical book, an interdisciplinary study of our fear of death and our inevitable acceptance of it. It introduced the world to the now-famous five stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. On Grief and Grieving applies these stages to the process of grieving and weaves together theory, inspiration, and practical advice, all based on Kübler-Ross' and Kessler's professional and personal experiences.

The Courage to Be Disliked, already an enormous best seller in Asia with more than 3.5 million copies sold, demonstrates how to unlock the power within yourself to be the person you truly want to be. Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 20th-century psychology, The Courage to Be Disliked follows an illuminating conversation between a philosopher and a young man. The philosopher explains to his pupil how each of us is able to determine our own life, free from the shackles of past experiences, doubts, and the expectations of others.

Full of things we may know but have not articulated to ourselves, Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart is a gentle and generous alternative to the trial-and-error learning that makes wisdom such an expensive commodity. For everyone who feels a sense of urgency that the clock ticks and still we aren't the person we'd like to be, it offers solace, guidance, and hope.

Historia
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1974 and the culmination of a life's work, The Denial of Death is Ernest Becker's brilliant and impassioned answer to the "why" of human existence. In bold contrast to the predominant Freudian school of thought, Becker tackles the problem of the vital lie: man's refusal to acknowledge his own mortality. In doing so, he sheds new light on the nature of humanity and issues a call to life and its living that still resonates more than 30 years after its writing.

The Varieties of Religious Experience is considered to be the classic work in the field. To quote Wikipedia, "James was most interested in understanding personal religious experience. The importance of James to the psychology of religion - and to psychology more generally - is difficult to overstate. He discussed many essential issues that remain of vital concern today. What makes James writing so special is that he could take a very complex subject and, without watering it down, make it understandable to 'the rest of us.'"

Alan Watts examines the problem of humans in a seemingly hostile universe in ways that question the social norms and illusions that bind and constrict modern humans. Marking a groundbreaking synthesis, Watts asserts that the powerful insights of Freud and Jung, which had, indeed, brought psychiatry close to the edge of liberation, could, if melded with the hitherto secret wisdom of the Eastern traditions, free people from their battles with the self.

Sound familiar? In this audio book, Dr. Barker shows how indecisive people are failure-prone, as he explores the decision-making process in the individual, especially the role of the subconscious mind in either abetting or thwarting every conscious mind decision.

Born in 1905 in the center of the crumbling Austro-Hungarian Empire, Viktor Frankl was a witness to the great political, philosophical, and scientific upheavals of the 20th century. Forty-five years later, it was still named one of the most influential books in the United States. Part One describes his three years in four Nazi concentration camps, which took the lives of his wife, father, mother, and brother. Dr. Ann Graber's magnificent work presented here in the Second Edition on Viktor Frankl is a serious attempt to demonstrate the effectiveness and viability of the use of existential analysis (logotherapy) and meaning centered counseling. Dr. Graber has poignantly demonstrated that existential analysis can be both scientifically sound and theologically grounded. Unlike the other Viennese schools of depth psychology, Frankl centers his work in the spiritual vitality of the human soul wherein is located the origin and destiny of all emotional healing.

Franklian perspectives will orient you towards purpose
At the offset, I’ll state that the performance is wonderful insofar as it is respectful and appropriate. The cadence of speech is just right for my ear.
Dr. Frankl’s story is worthy of five stars in every instance.
This book is one I’ve used as a therapist with clients who have suicidal ideations, and the feedback I have received on using the book in this way is overwhelmingly positive. For those among us who experience despair (all), this book is deeply relevant.

True to Frankl
I enjoy reading/listening to books about perspectives, principles and various aspects of psychology. For me, this book gave a little more “behind the scenes” info on Frankl’s main work Man’s Search For Meaning, especially since it was written before his book made publication.
I personally disagree with some of his perspectives regarding suicide, but given the era in which they were written, it makes more sense. As a global society I believe mankind has made or is making progress past this in compassionate perspective.
That being said, Frankl has provided food for thought and this was still worth the listen and I have already asked some friends to read it so we can discuss.
If you like Frankl’s work, you will also enjoy this.
