Lizzy schaamt zich dood voor haar baan als marketeer bij Man van Nu, een ordinair lifestyleblad voor mannen. Het uitgeleefde, studentikoze appartement waar ze sinds haar studiejaren nog steeds woont is ze inmiddels ontgroeid en haar prins lijkt op een schildpad te zitten en komt maar niet voorbij. Gelukkig fleuren de bezoekjes aan Celeste, een oudere dame met wie ze bevriend is geraakt tijdens haar studentenbijbaan in de thuiszorg, haar leven op. Ze is dan ook geschokt als Celeste niet alleen plotseling overlijdt, maar haar ook nog eens haar kapitale grachtenpand nalaat.
Helaas blijkt de erfenis minder aantrekkelijk dan gedacht. Ze moet hem delen met Celestes onbekende kleinzoon, Tobias. Deze knappe maar koele zakenman wil het huis, dat Lizzy het liefst wil opknappen en in ere herstellen, zo snel mogelijk verkopen. Ze zet alles op alles om hem op andere gedachten te brengen en ontdekt daarbij pijnlijke geheimen uit Celestes verleden. Zo komt ze tot het inzicht dat je soms een sprong in het diepe moet wagen als je ooit echt gelukkig wilt worden.
