Acerca de esta escucha

As the Spanish Flu pandemic promenades through the streets of East Boston, quarantined inside the brownstone tenement, Jimmy Quinn, eyes pressed against the keyhole of a forgotten door, watches her. The mysterious girl dances silently. The only sound is his beating heart. There is no music. She knows he is watching. A relationship will begin.

Clara's only desire is to dance for a world caught in the grip of the Spanish flu. This will mean leaving the safety of the tenement, going outside where the pandemic breathes destruction. Will Jimmy Quinn risk all to follow the carefree and untroubled girl, who has stolen his heart, into the streets of Boston to watch her dance before the Gripe Española steals her away?

Quarantined Love

"Whisper Dancing" is the third book in J Hirtle's trilogy of short stories and may be his best! The title story, "Whisper Dancing" is set during the pandemic of 1917-1918. A story of young love wrapped in the familiar rags of living in a pandemic. So much of this story could have happened yesterday, in the world we are living in now. I loved his characters as much as they loved each other. Every story in this collection has a tinge of love, whether it be a boy falling for a mysterious girl or an old man whose love for his wife is rekindled by the whistle of a tea kettle. Note: the narrator is not the same as the first two books. I was disappointed in the change. Lou Del Bianco produced the first two with a magnificently tranquilizing voice, bring characters to life. Logan Farrar produced Whisper Dancing; it just wasn't Lou. Often, when dialogue included two characters, the listener was unable to tell the difference, leading to some confusion as to who was speaking. At one point, the mediocre Irish accent crosses over to the New Englander speaking character. I needed a drink after that one. Setting aside my disappointment with the narrator, this story is a must listen. By the way, I read "Whisper Dancing" before listening to it, something I rarely do. I am glad I did, you will be too!
