Checked every box, and I'm picky!

I have definitely been disappointed recently with the fantasy genre, my favorite addiction. I can tell because so many times I was rolling my eyes thinking the FMC is about to abandon her morals, start up an annoying, whiny inner dialogue any time now and ruin this absolute gem of a book, just the opposite happened!

I 100% thought I knew how this book was going to end and even though there was a flicker of disappointment at another cliché drama-grab cliffhanger, that's still 5-star goals with how many DNF's I've read recently. I was shocked to discover that the ending was an unexpected surprise with just enough of a teaser of what's to come that I'm hooked! No clichés! No abandoniI might also have to raise the bar a little higher, but I'll hold off a little longer.

What a gem

Listened to this on Audible and it was wonderful. The narrator did a great job and the story was different than what I had expected. Can the two cultures come together and learn to accept one another? will trust and peace be obtained? The MC's are fleshed out and grow into maturity. I was never bored with the story. There is a book two that is out but it's not on Audible yet. I hope that it will be. There are only two books to the story so will have to read book two but would much rather it be on Audible because of poor eyesight. I would recommend this duo. It was a clean read which is so hard to find anymore.

Amazing Story

New look at an old tale. Enemies who, through all the past bad, find the good in one another and the will to fight for what's right. well written and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat! Can't wait for book 2!

Amazing.

This book was amazing. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was very pleased. I cried while driving down the road listening to some of the chapters. I laughed at other things. The surprise that came from other chapters had me not wanting to stop listening. Dang work getting in the way. Seriously though. Amazing book!

Heart-Pounding, Action-Packed, Endearing

Loved the narration for this book! All the inflections and emotions into each character.

As for the book itself, it’s one that I’d previously read and loved so much that I wanted to listen to the audio. I was still struck with all the same emotions this time around.

Unique story I couldn’t stop listening to

This is one of my favorite romantasy reads and loved re-experiencing it with the audio. Great narration - looking forward to listening to the next one.

Struggling to not DNF

I might be the outlier here, but I’m failing to see what others have praised. I do 100% agree the performance is good, but the story is very much a drag, the universe is not captivating, and the nature of the characters’ being is so confusing. Are they birds? Are they human? Are they both? They lay eggs? They have hands, right? Oh wait, yes they seemingly have hair? Are they like angels? He’s “the Shark” so do animals exist? The writing is too vague and it almost feels like it’s trying too hard to create a fantasy people to a point where you can’t conceptualize it and immerse yourself into the story. The first 14 chapters says a lot of nothing with a lot of repetition. The political element is a very cliche “church vs. government” feel with the governing body wanting more power. I’ve listened half way through and have needed to go back and re-listen twice, yet still none of the characters are memorable or even truly likable. Who knows, maybe I’ll run out of other options and try again, but for now it’s a strong DNF.
