They won’t leave this young soldier to his grief. Now, they will suffer his wrath....
Ireland, 1856. Samuel Kingston can’t shake his guilt over his father’s death. Blindsided when his aristocratic enemies freeze his funds and steal incriminating papers, he becomes desperate for cash. To save the family estate, he makes a bold deal with Cornelius Vanderbilt to smuggle weapons to Costa Rica and arm the foes of the filibuster, William Walker.
Battling bandits and filibusters to complete his mission, Samuel despairs when his enemies strike again and take all that is dear to him. Now, he must convince the Costa Ricans to assault Walker’s forts on the river, even if he’s sailing straight into a deathtrap.
Can Kingston survive a revenge plot and betrayal to save his new family?
When Rivers Collide is the second pulse-pounding book in the Adventures of a Victorian Soldier historical adventure series.
Book one of the series has been shortlisted for the Society for Army Historical Research 2021 Prize for Military Fiction. This prestigious prize was established to encourage authors to write stories in the tradition of C. S. Forester's Death to the French, George McDonald Fraser's Flashman, and McAuslan stories with the literary merit to inspire a new generation of military history enthusiasts and scholars.

Historia
Union soldier John Chenneville suffered a traumatic head wound in battle. His recovery took the better part of a year as he struggled to regain his senses and mobility. By the time he returned home, the Civil War was over, but tragedy awaited. John’s beloved sister and her family had been brutally murdered. Their killer goes by many names. He fought for the North in the late unpleasantness, and wore a badge in the name of the law. But the man John knows as A. J. Dodd is little more than a rabid animal, slaughtering without reason or remorse, needing to be put down.

For Captain Charles Hunter, gold in Spanish hands is gold for the taking, and the law of the land rests with those ruthless enough to make it. Word in port is that the galleon El Trinidad, fresh from New Spain, is awaiting repairs in a nearby harbor. Heavily fortified, the impregnable harbor is guarded by the bloodthirsty Cazalla, a favorite commander of the Spanish king himself. With backing from a powerful ally, Hunter assembles a crew of ruffians to infiltrate the enemy outpost and commandeer El Trinidad, along with its fortune in Spanish gold.

Historia
Ten years after the collapse, Huxley has built a good life again. He has a loving wife, a farm with fields of golden barley, and a daughter with a strange and wonderful gift. Then the slavers come. Working out in the fields during the attack, Huxley returns too late. His daughter has been taken, and his wife is bleeding out, her last whispered words about a man with a scorpion tattoo on his neck. Where do the slavers go? Huxley has no idea. He knows only that they head east, and so will he, setting out on foot across the desert of the Wastelands.

In 1864, after Union general William Tecumseh Sherman burned Atlanta, he marched his sixty thousand troops east through Georgia to the sea, and then up into the Carolinas. The army fought off Confederate forces and lived off the land, pillaging the Southern plantations, taking cattle and crops for their own, demolishing cities, and accumulating a borne-along population of freed blacks and white refugees until all that remained was the dangerous transient life of the uprooted, the dispossessed, and the triumphant.

Historia
In March 1865, the long and bitter War between the States is winding down. Till now, 23-year-old Simon Boudlin has evaded military duty thanks to his slight stature, youthful appearance, and utter lack of compunction about bending the truth. But following a barroom brawl in Victoria, Texas, Simon finds himself conscripted, however belatedly, into the Confederate Army. Luckily his talent with a fiddle gets him a comparatively easy position in a regimental band.

It was an age of empire, an age of contrast, and an age of dramatic change - and one which would determine the destinies of nations as well as of men. Captain Philip Blackwood of the Royal Marines rejoins his ship, HMS Audacious, in August of 1850, anxious to get back into action. "Per Mare - Per Terram" is the marines' motto. In the torturous heat of Africa, where they are sent to stamp out the remaining strongholds of slavery, and later, in the bitter war of the Crimea, Philip Blackwood and his men learn to obey it without question.

Historia
It is 1780, and 17-year-old Alan Lewrie is a brash, rebellious young libertine. So much so that his callous father believes a bit of naval discipline will turn the boy around. Fresh aboard the tall-masted Ariadne, Midshipman Lewrie heads for the war-torn Americas, finding - rather unexpectedly - that he is a born sailor, equally at home with the randy pleasures of the port and the raging battles on the high seas. But in a hail of cannonballs comes a bawdy surprise.

Cloaked by the mists of dawn, Task Force 61 - carrying tanks, aircraft, and over 5000 Marines - steams toward Syria with deadly intent. Their mission: rescue 100 hostages from a terrorist stronghold - alive. With realism seldom seen in military fiction, The Med is a magnificent and timely epic that brings the human drama of armed conflict compellingly to life.

Decent story, poor narration
The story was interesting, but I can’t comment on the historical accuracy. I do know that West Virginia did not become a state until 1863. The narrator mispronounced a number of American place names and I suspect he also mispronounced some Spanish names as well. I would think that if he where going to narrate a novel, he would at least do some research on pronunciations, especially if he is reading about places and people he is not familiar with. Also, his attempt at an American accent was terrible.
