Yet there was no escaping from the prison the goddess had created for me. I was trapped within the walls of the Imperial Palace, beholden to that horrible woman for my very existence. All I could do was wait and hope that I’d eventually find some way to gain my freedom. When that opportunity finally presented itself, I jumped into the unknown, preferring to take the risk rather than remain in my gilded cage.

But the bargain I’d made had more than one side, and the goddess hadn’t been its only intended victim. Alone in a strange land, I soon discovered that the world beyond the palace walls wasn’t exactly the way I’d imagined it would be.
