Well worth the time

I have to admit that when I first saw the synopsis of Volcanic Momentum by authorpreneur Jordan Ring, I was pretty apprehensive about its content.

Peppered with terms such as “Destiny Goals”, “Energy Code” and “Creating Time”, I couldn’t but imagine the book was going to be filled with some fluffy New-Agey stuff, which was totally not up my alley. (It didn’t help that the publisher was named “Archangel Ink” to boot.) But I couldn’t have been more wrong, and was I glad I decided against giving it a miss.

No, there isn’t the slightest hint of archangels, spirit guides or “you are a god” kind of mysticism I was half-expecting/dreading in Volcanic Momentum. Instead, what you get is a treasure chest full of practical advice on progressive goal-setting, building and sustaining momentum, as well as becoming the best version of yourself.

(Jordan Ring does reveal his theology in some parts of his writing, and more so in the last chapter, though this is neither preachy nor over-the-top, but simply a reflection of his spiritual worldview.)

Using a volcanic eruption as a metaphor for explosive personal growth, Jordan Ring references from respected self-help literature as well as uses heartfelt sharing from his own experiences to present a case for living a life with higher purpose and fulfilment.

Each chapter typically opens with an apt quote by well-known personalities, setting the tone for the topic at hand. After an introduction of the overall concept, the rest of the chapter is filled with various steps and ideas on executing the plan. Along the way, the author also provides additional tools and resources available on his website.

In case you get overwhelmed with the sheer amount of tips suggested throughout the book, Jordan Ring provides a list of 17 takeaways at the end that readers can act upon immediately.

THE GOOD
Volcanic Momentum is easy to read and paced comfortably, without being either too heavy on theory or too lightweight in content.

Jordan Ring puts in a convincing and impassioned argument not to live as status quo. At the very least, readers will find the book encouraging, if not potentially life-changing.

Even if you don’t carry out any of the suggested activities, just reading through the book will definitely allow you to walk away with some inspiration about getting started on your goals and provoke your thoughts on living a meaningful life, both for yourself and towards others.

THE NOT-SO-GOOD
Readers who are familiar with the self-help genre may not find the ideas shared in this book unique. As it is, the writing sources from many existing works in this field, but this does not render it any less useful.

Think of it as a “best of” book where the author does the hard research in this area and packages the most powerful thoughts into 150 pages of solid content. Thus it is almost impossible not to gain something out of Volcanic Momentum, even for seasoned readers of the genre.

CONCLUSION
Jordan Ring does great service to the (much-maligned) world of self-publishing with his well-polished writing and well-organised material.

For those who feel their lives drifting from one day to the next, lacking direction and purpose, I can’t recommend Volcanic Momentum highly enough. It will be well worth the time spent reading it through at least once, or more to let the ideas sink in.

Great read

great book to get ideas from in order to move your life forward. The author invokes a very positive attitude and yet uses some very insightful ideas and for his young age has some great wisdom. this book is not long but it's filled with ideas and strategies that can be helpful to almost anybody.

I definitely need Volcanic Momentum!

I am a total procrastinator and frequently lose momentum.
I found Volcanic Momentum to have great ideas and advice to set, maintain and achieve goals.
With Volcanic Momentum you can improve many aspects of your life and contains some interesting ideas to take control and make your moves count.

I thought Jordan Ring as both author and narrator did a great job, and I found this audiobook very useful :)
