Harper muss einsehen, dass man nicht alles im Leben planen kann. Nur zwei Tage vor ihrer minutiös organisierten Traumhochzeit lässt ihr perfekter Bräutigam sie mitten in Schottland sitzen und macht sich wieder auf den Weg nach Seattle. Um den Kopf freizubekommen, setzt sich die ehrgeizige Karrierefrau in ihr Auto, und findet sich kurz darauf auf einer abgelegenen, schottischen Insel wieder, auf der sie prompt dem Highlander Cameron in die Arme läuft - und ihn nach ein paar Stunden heftiger Verliebtheit heiratet. Der heißblütige Schotte ist völlig anders als ihr zugeknöpfter Ex und verbringt mit ihr in seinem abgeschiedenen Cottage aufregende Flitterwochen. Er lebt in den Tag hinein und bringt Harper bei, loszulassen und das Leben zu genießen.
Doch sosehr ihr Camerons Ungezwungenheit gefällt, gibt es doch ein paar Dinge, die ihr Rätsel aufgeben - angefangen mit der Frage, wer ihr attraktiver Ehemann eigentlich ist.
