Throwing caution to the wind, he plunged into a new project: building a model nuclear reactor in his backyard garden shed. Posing as a physics professor, David solicited information on reactor design from the US government and from industry experts. Following blueprints he found in an outdated physics textbook, David cobbled together a crude device that threw off toxic levels of radiation.

Wolke, professor emeritus of chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh, provides definitive - and amazingly simple - explanations for the mysteries of everyday life.

Paul Falkowski looks "under the hood" of microbes to find the engines of life, the actual working parts that do the biochemical heavy lifting for every living organism on Earth. With insight and humor, he explains how these miniature engines are built - and how they have been appropriated by and assembled like Lego sets within every creature that walks, swims, or flies. Falkowski shows how evolution works to maintain this core machinery of life, and how we and other animals are veritable conglomerations of microbes.

Napoleon's Buttons is the fascinating account of 17 groups of molecules that have greatly influenced the course of history. These molecules provided the impetus for early exploration, and made possible the voyages of discovery that ensued. The molecules resulted in grand feats of engineering and spurred advances in medicine and law; they determined what we now eat, drink, and wear. A change as small as the position of an atom can lead to enormous alterations in the properties of a substance.

Like the alphabet, the calendar, or the zodiac, the periodic table of the chemical elements has a permanent place in our imagination. But aside from the handful of common ones (iron, carbon, copper, gold), the elements themselves remain wrapped in mystery. We do not know what most of them look like, how they exist in nature, how they got their names, or of what use they are to us.

I learned Chemistry is FUN!
I didn’t take chemistry til grad school, and wow, I wish I’d had a teacher to could make it so accessible as this! This is so fun. And I believe having young people learn these facts young, can make them less afraid for when they do have to take the higher levels.
Thanks for another fantastic book. Its great for students and teachers alike!

Chemistry has never been more fun!
I really disliked chemistry but decided to give it one more shot. This book caught my attention and decided that it couldn't hurt to listen too, and that was a great decision! This book taught me so many interesting facts and showed that chemistry can be fun to learn.
Something this book does better than any teacher I have had is its ability to teach me. I usually have an easy time learning and memorizing facts, but all of my chemistry teachers were there to tell me information, not teach it. This book truly taught me, and I wish I had it for when I took chemistry. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone taking chemistry, about to take chemistry, or is just interested in it!

The best way to learn chemistry!
I never thought learning Chemistry would be this fun and exciting until I found this book. I have referred to several books written on Chemistry before, but none of them caught my attention as this one did. The content is factual yet simple and easy to remember. This audiobook is a perfect source of information for beginners like me who has a thirst for learning chemistry by not wasting too much time on one particular subject. The listen was not at all boring, and I guess you'll need to have this in your library if you too are a chemistry lover.

Informative and Helpful!
The book provides many fun facts to learn that kids loved. I never really loved chemistry as a student, but the book makes learning the elements more interesting. How I wish I had listened to the book earlier to help me back then. It is a good one to listen to with kids to learn and show off knowledge as some of them already know more than me now, but It was fun listening.

Learning chemistry has never been so fun!
Wao! Wao! I never imagined I could go through a chemistry book and decide to write a review. I want to say how much this book impressed me. It is packed with information.
My little one enjoyed it—a 7th grader.
“Margarine” You have to listen to know what I mean:-)
“What cools nuclear reactors ?…. what!!!, you don’t know? After going through this. Book I feel so much more intelligent (more than a 5th grader) If you have watched that show then. You know that is no joke. Enough said! Get it.
