A solid read for sci-fi nerds

A worthy read, if you're a sci-fi nerd who appreciates a bit of ripped-from-the-headlines reality inspiring your stories.

It strikes him that the memories he recalls belong to a boy who has been gone for such a long time, he no longer feels real.

Jumping from teen years to middle age, we follow a group of kids (now grandparents) who experience something so horrifying it defines their lives, even if they try to forget what happened.

You'll be glad to know Unidentified accomplishes in 193 pages what Summer of Night danced around for a whopping 634. Something evil is stalking a rural town, and things get insane while people try to deal with it, or tragically decide not to.

The ending was shockingly abrupt, but the epilogue gives you a bit to chew on so you don't leave hungry. And the nice little dessert in the author's notes satisfies the nerd in you who simply has to go check his research, and see if it all really adds up.

just okay

the most interesting part was the author's afterward. the story was just okay. no real surprises.

Scary!

Scary from the get-go. Don’t read it at night. Glad it was short. Couldn’t have taken much more. Thoughts to ponder as well that last past the book.

Great First Contact book

Unidentified by Michael McBride and narrated by the great How Hempel is a terrific and terrifying short story about friends that met the unknown when they were young. This event brought about this story, the second meeting! Wow! Very unique!
Wonderful narration that kept the tension tight! Great job as usual!!!

Finish it...

This novella has a few slow moments, but if you’re a fan of alien-related science fiction you will enjoy this. Just be sure to listen to the epilogue as others have mentioned. I am a big fan of McBride’s writing and if you enjoy this and haven’t started the 51 trilogy, you should. The narrator says in Unidentified isn’t as good as the 51 trilogy, but is still good. Give this one a try.

Interesting....

I went into this completely blind so I had absolutely NO idea what this book was about.

It is actually a short story that takes us back in forth between 2 different timelines - 20+ years ago and the present. We go back and forth as the author slowly unfolds the story.

Apparently, there were 5 teenagers involved in an event (20+ years ago) and for some reason, NO ONE can remember a period of 24 hours. All they know id that only 4 of them came out of the experience. Wyatt was missing.

Karl, one of the kids (now an adult), is now a specialist in the field of study directly related to that past event. He comes back to town after he receives an odd email from one of the other kids involved.
The email states "I remember everything". The story takes off from there.......

Good but not great

I like the premise, the narration was pretty good, but in terms of the overall story I could not, for the life of me, focus on it. Ultimately it just did not appeal to me.

Sci-fi horror

enjoy this book it was a fun quick read but action the whole time. Good characters final together might give it five stars.

a whole lot of nothing

for a short book, there isn't much movement with the plot. there's a eerie mystery here, but it's a bunch of jumping around, back and forth, only vaguely touching on what's happening. i got about a third of the way through before i decided to stop wasting my time
