If you’ve ever sat staring at a blank wall, not knowing what to do with your life or whether you should pursue spiritual or materialistic gain, you are not alone. For countless Christians–in fact, believers of any kind–the precarious precipice that lies between the spiritual world and the physical world is a tightrope that many fail to navigate.
The question so many seem to ask is: Is making money against God’s will?
I would answer them, but they’re looking at the spectrum of spirituality all wrong. Money is just a modern-day reward. It shouldn’t be the goal. The goal should always be to find and fulfill your purpose. To serve others with that purpose and align yourself with the will of God. Only then, will you receive the rewards for your efforts.
Pursuing money is like putting the cart before the horse. Yes, God wants us to walk in humility and turn to him, but he does not want us to suffer or live an impoverished life. He doesn’t want us to lead celibate lives or those without harmonious companionship. All he asks is that we seek purpose over profit, and connection over simple pleasures.
The reason why so many people can’t seem to find fulfillment in life isn’t that they lack finances. It is that they lack purpose–a purpose which could lead to a life of abundant rewards from our Heavenly Father.
