Acerca de esta escucha

Captain Flint, Billy Bones, Black Dog, Blind Pew, and of course, Long John Silver are just a few of the larger-than-life characters who inhabit the plot of this Robert Louis Stevenson 1883 masterpiece of storytelling. And what a plot it is!! Jim Hawkins (who narrates the tale) discovers the long-lost Treasure Map, on which X marks the spot, in the belongings of a dead pirate. He takes it to the local Doctor and Squire who determine to buy a ship, set sail, and recover the treasure from the Island. In a masterstroke of plot, Stevenson has the excited but gullible Squire recruit a crew made up, mostly, of the very crew of Buccaneers and Pirates who plundered this treasure in the first place, under the Captaincy of Flint! They are now led by the one-legged, cunning, and charismatic, Long John Silver. What follows is an unforgettable, fast-paced action-packed adventure that includes mutiny, murder, betrayal, battle, and bravery.

Treasure Island is one of the most often dramatized and adapted novels of all time. This swashbuckling escapade set the standard in sea-faring adventure novels. The plot, the imaginative characters, and the locations are pure delight. It was first published as a book on 14 November 1883, though it was originally serialized from 1881 to 1882 in the children's magazine "Young Folks" under the title "Treasure Island or the Mutiny of the Hispaniola".

This story is a classic for a reason. Truly a great adventure novel with unforgettable characters. Long John Silver jumps off the page as the larger-than-life seaman without feeling corny or hokey in the slightest.

Chris MacDonnell does a great job of bringing this story to life. Each character is different without adding any over-the-top accents or annoying voices.

I loved this adaption of the classic pirate tale! Having so enjoyed Chris’s take on Wind in the Willows I was delighted to see he has lent his talents to Treasure Island, and he really doesn’t disappoint. Listening to the story took me back to my childhood for sure. Well worth a listen.
